Philomena, cont'd from Den - Scorch - 02-09-2018

It takes time, but the tiny figure eventually finds her way to her skinny legs, wobbling to and fro, but standing nonetheless. Scorch smiles appreciatively, and reaches out to steady the girl, ruffling her mane and poofy forelock. "Well done, child, I knew you could do it." It isn't much, but in Scorch's books, it is a world of encouragement and positivity.

They begin their trek then, with the mother taking small steps so that the spotted filly can easily keep up. With the high-pitched voice of youth, the gentle, nuzzling girl announces her name. Philomena. Scorch smiles again, softly swaying her scraggly tail so as to wrap around the newborn as they walk.

"My name is Scorch, Philomena." She stops walking as the scent line approaches, bombarding their nostrils with news of many other horses, of a kingdom. "This land is called Nerine, and it is your home." The sun has begun to set on the two newly bonded figures, and Scorch shivers in the gathering shade due to her baldness.

"Come, Mina, and we will find a place to settle. Would you like that?" She shifts her eyes to look at the girl squarely, their colour a peaceful sky-blue. "You must be tired. And hungry." Smiling again, the expression never becoming old for her in the presence of a child, Scorch turns away and extends a gentle beam of light ahead of them, guiding their way through the Nerinian underbrush.

She falls easily in step with the pale mare. Mina is not brave enough yet to wander far from her mother but finds the sprigs of flowers and occasional butterfly interesting enough to wander after. Despite her infinite curiosity she never strays far from Scorch.

The trek was rather long for the girl, though she refused to stop. The girl skips around beside her mother as they reached Nerine's borders her ears turned to the sound of Scorch's voice.

"Home."

Mina repeats the word, smiling at its sound and the warm feeling it gave her. The wild scent of her new kingdom mates hits her powerfully, her soft muzzle wrinkling in protest. Scorch ushers her forward into the kingdom, her tail wrapping protectively around the painted girl. Mina curls into her mother's side, nodding as the mare suggests a place to lay down. By this point so late in the day, she is worn and hungry from the journey. Carefully they make their way through the underbrush the girl stepping easily over thorn coated vines and small plants. She glances warily around, nervous suddenly at the surrounding equines. She could not see them yet, but she knew they lingered.

Mina walks closer to Scorch's side, eyeing the scenery around them carefully. Occasionally she would see rabbits or birds flit through the grounds, but mostly it was just grass and assorted plants. Distantly she heard the telltale wish wash of a great body of water, but Mina had never seen the ocean.

With a single glance around she sets her attention on her mother once more.

RE: Philomena, cont'd from Den - Scorch - 02-11-2018

The girl is cautious, a trait that Scorch is not used to in children. Her own had taken up bravery and foolhardiness, though she knew exactly from whence those characteristics came... Looking back at her own childhood, Scorch can't help but chuckle as her daughter watches and walks alongside her. As a child, she had been head strong, brash, impulsive - and it had taken possibly more than seventy years, and death, for that to change.

The last stretch of their journey is the hardest on her small charge, Scorch can tell. Her steps are less confident, jumpy at all the new sensory information bombarding her. But Mina does well, sticking close and never complaining, whining, or crying. For an abandoned child, she is courageous, and Scorch's heart swells in love for the child. Even though it is a courage unlike that which her genetics inspired, it is a courage that is equally as valuable, and one that she shall encourage and help to thrive.

Finally, as the forest falls further around them and the scent of other horses lessens somewhat, Scorch halts. It is a thicket they have come to, secluded, private. The bushes press in warmly and create a sort of enclosure: it is a place to call their own, and as like to the spot in the Jungle where she had raised her previous children as she could find.

"Come eat, Philomena." Her charred muzzle reaches out and puts pressure on the girl's tiny spotted rump, encouraging her to nestle beneath Scorch's belly. Although she had not been pregnant, nor does her body possess the anatomy required to produce milk, the faeries had granted her the ability to produce for her adopted child, as they always do in these scenarios. Usually, mares who are already producing milk will adopt foals; but in this case, the faeries had added some magic and helped Scorch to provide for her daughter.

When the spotted girl's pops from Scorch's teat, her stomach fully satisfied, Scorch nickers warmly and grooms her baby fur, coaxing her to lie down at her powerful hooves.

"Sleep, daughter. In the morning, I will show you the kingdom." And so they stay, Scorch gently guiding her daughter to sleep and then standing guard, her heart full for the first time in far too long.

(OOC - if you want to post again and have Mina wake up in the morning, that's awesome!! If you want to start a new thread and have Mina aged a bit and they can interact more as adults ish, that's awesome too!! And of course you may now post to anyone in the kingdom, and I bet if you put up an 'any' post you would get a reply from another Nerinian <3 I'm so excited to have Mina be a part of the family! <3333)
