Sometimes, he is allowed to join them on their journeys - to places of his wildest imagination with Mother, and to real life places with his sister. Mother makes sure to always teach her children something when she welcomed them into the dreamscape with her, but the dreams are always warm and never dark - a fact that he might later resent her for, or perhaps he would be grateful for having a childhood full of flowers and romance and gentility. But with his sister - Warlight, a girl with a gale for a soul and the body with which to exert its powers - their midnight adventures were always thrilling, a real-time threat against their youthful bodies as they tried to find their way back to Hyaline from wherever she dreamt them, sometimes as far away as the beach. Tonight, however, the golden prince strikes out on his own, leaving Mothers and siblings behind to see what he will. In the silvered moonlight, the leopard print markings adorning his haunches turn a bright blue, morphing from a tribute to his leopard mother to his blue mother. They flash subtly with each step he takes, though he doesn't see this: what he sees, in the depths of his cool brown eyes is the inky transformation of the landscape from scraggly to lush, the spring run off from the mountains turning to long grasses and copses of trees not native to Hyaline. The scents of kingdoms he knows he knows but doesn't care to remember pass him by, and as the moon creeps higher above, he slips into the outskirts of the meadow. He's expected to be the only one here at this hour, but fate has intervened - not that he minds. Given his speechlessness, he's been forced to grow into quite an avid observer; and observe he does, in a silent reverence of the girl's beautiful dance. The gangling colt - a teenager now, though only freshly - perks his ears to catch the gentle sound of her hoof-fall, counting her dancing steps as if to a music neither of them could hear. It doesn't occur to him to join her or to even alert her of his presence; as she rises onto her hind like like something out of one of his mother's dreams, he offers but a little smile, dazed by what he witnesses at this, mid night. Tiny beams of light shoot briefly and at intervals, creating the illusion of a star's halo as he watches; but the unconscious show of magical appreciation stops when he realizes that she's looking at him, noticing him, approaching the star on the wall. Hello, she says from a world away, the air running its fingers through the grass between them as if to emphasize the distance that the dancer has left between them. Just as her lithe form steps forward, so does his, both coltish and inelegant in their youth, but breathtaking at the same time; a testament to the novelty of youth, the crispness of their sparkling eyes an oath to the stars. She asks if he likes secrets, and he finds that he'd never before considered; but it takes no longer than a moment for him to decide that yes, he does like secrets. A gentle wave of light bursts from his chest, slowly winding its way in the wind towards hers; though he cannot manipulate the light particles, he does his best to aim them in such a way that they showcase the beauty of the dancer. Swathe in moonlight; swathe in starlight. Yes, he nods, eyes twinkling and ears perking in eager anticipation for what she might tell him. There's no one else around, and yet he takes a step closer; drawn in by her promise of mystery, but the way her forelock flits across the width of her eyes, obscuring her as roses obscure thorns; but he steps closer again, reaching to take her as if by the stem, not knowing what could possibly await his trusting hands. Rhaegor @[ivy] RE: i hear the words when they’re singing; rhaegor - ivy - 09-30-2018 where we break when our hearts are strong enough He is quiet and calm and beautiful for it, and she wonders at the boy who makes no sudden movements, who does not yell or raise his voice or boast. She calms in his presence, her skin prickling when he reaches forward with his light. For a moment, she imagines it piercing her, imagines it running through her, and she cannot decide if this idea is terrifying or thrilling. Her eyes widen with it, but she doesn’t move even though her indigo legs witch with nervousness and excitement and the need to move. we can bow 'cause our music's warmer than blood @[Rhaegor] RE: i hear the words when they’re singing; rhaegor - Rhaegor - 10-06-2018 I kept my hope just like i'd hoped tothen sang to the sea for feelings deep blue She tilts her head, and even that small movement is enough to send him spinning, as if a mere movement of hers were to him the most powerful of drugs. He can't decide why, though. Why her and not the others, though the others have certainly been enchanting in their own ways - but this girl, cloaked in her secrets and in the light of the moon, something about her spelt otherworldly. His head tilts to meet hers, feeling for all its worth as if gravity now existed between them and that, without any thought, it would eventually pull them together into some sort of cosmic show of light and youth and wonder. But when at last their velveteen lips do brush, it is softer than any supernova, sending a thrill through him in the form of a wave of light streaming from every point of his body before fading into oblivion. She withdraws quickly, and the boy releases a breathe he hadn't known he'd been holding. The spinning of his head lessens some as he restocks the oxygen levels in his brain, but he still feels dizzy as he beholds the dancer. He wants badly to ask her name, but finds himself, as always, unable. The frustration momentarily distracts him, and his eyes cloud ever and drop; but the liquid sound of her voice revives him, and the uselessness of his tongue is quickly forgotten. I like them too. He waits a moment longer, but no secret of her own joins them in the cool night air, and he is left wanting. Please, moon dancer, he thinks, begs; tell me your secrets... But of course, no such words befall said dancer's ears, and the night carries on in silence. Breathless and entranced even in the wake of her mystery, Rhae looks up and shoots a lazer heaven word, slicing the night in two with a show of blue-tinted prowess. Wonders where he is quiet because she is not engaging enough or interesting enough or pretty enough. She wonders if he is simply remaining such because he is hoping that she will go away—and the thought almost makes her grow shy. Part of her withdraws, wanting to protect herself once more, but when she glances up, catching the softness in his eye, the warmth in his gaze, she thinks better of it. Instead, she simply grows grateful for it, wondering if perhaps he knew of the fears that fluttered in her heart, the anxieties that perched there—just waiting to take flight. we can bow 'cause our music's warmer than blood @[Rhaegor] RE: i hear the words when they’re singing; rhaegor - Rhaegor - 10-14-2018 I kept my hope just like i'd hoped tothen sang to the sea for feelings deep blue As the light pierces the night in two, she comes undone. Though the light fades quickly when he releases control of it, the imprint of its shape leaves him nearly sightless in the all-consuming darkness around them. The prince takes a fumbling step closer to the girl, hoping she will still be there when sight returns to him; but her voice confirms her presence, and it does little to reground Rhaegor back in reality. You're a constellation. A half-dazed smile touches the colt's lips; he hadn't expect her to be so awed, and the fact that she is leaves him breathless. Her words are followed by steps closer, steps he can only hear and not yet see; so when her nose finds his chest, he flinches. Quickly though, before she can be hurt by his surprise, he is gathering her to him, stepping closer to her and gently placing his nose on the other side of her neck such that she stands, curled and folded, in the space between his chin and his chest. Do the heavens live within you? I think they live between us, moon dancer. She leaves with the words, as flighty as the wind, her whimsical movement suggestive of the might she could bear should she want to. With vision only half-adjusted, she seems an angel in the moonlight, her movements ethereal now even more than they were before. Or maybe his vision is fine, and he's simply enthralled by her without needing any supplemental stimulus. Maybe she is his sun, the star around which his world revolves. She beckons to him, steps back, says please - and in response, the pegasus lowers his head, indicating that she should not yet turn and run. Rhae's approach is slow, calculated, as if every step that brings him closer to her is a gift that ought to be cherished; and when there remains no space between them, he finds himself ghosting his lips along the sensitive fibers of her ears, breathing there and allowing the softest of words to make their way to her mind. "Anything for you." And without another thought, he surges forward with a powerful push from his hindquarters, running his wing along the length of her body as the earth disappears beneath him as if of its own volition. The pumping of his legs and the impact of his hooves against the moonlit grass fill their midnight stage with noise, and soon, the sound of hers accompany his; an orchestra for the stars above to admire. Rhaegor @[ivy] RE: i hear the words when they’re singing; rhaegor - ivy - 10-14-2018 where we break when our hearts are strong enough Once, she had been a princess. An almost princess. A child of two rulers of the Chamber, a kingdom both of and before her time. She, along with her two siblings, had been the swan song of their love. They had been the final kiss before death overtook their father, dragging him out and away—leaving them empty and alone. Now she is princess of nothing. She is princess of the moon and the stars and the quiet kingdoms she builds in her head, resurrecting them in the eventide and destroying them come sunrise. we can bow 'cause our music's warmer than blood @[Rhaegor] RE: i hear the words when they’re singing; rhaegor - Rhaegor - 10-22-2018 I kept my hope just like i'd hoped tothen sang to the sea for feelings deep blue To be the prince of nothing with her feels more extraordinary than any regular princehood ever would be; in these moments, as her skin touches his and as the ground flies for them, Rhae thinks that maybe his true inheritance is the moon, or the stars, and not a kingdom and its people. With the nameless girl by his side, he rules the expanses of both the sky and the earth, a King of his own realm with the Queen born to it by his side. Her lips find his jaw, her breast leaning into his with an intensity he hadn't anticipated (though perhaps he should have expected everything and anything from the secretive girl). He leans in too, caught by her gravity, pulled to her as naturally as the ocean is pulled to the tectonic plates, as the world is pulled to the sun, as the universe is pulled to a black hole. He leans, and he finds that he does not want to run any more. Careful or I will ask for your heart. Before she can pull away, his teeth gently find purchase on the flesh of her neck and the tangle of her baby locks. "You assume I haven't already given it." And it feels true, more true than any other word he's uttered or thought he's held secret; he does not know her name but that doesn't bother him, there's something inside of her that lends itself to his nature. He wonders what secrets she has, but finds that the mystery of living without them creates a tension unlike any he's experienced. He wants her, in a youthful and needy way, in a way that spoke to his need for wonder above all else. She embodied wonder in a way he could not verbalize; she stole his heart as a one might pluck a berry, from the stem without effort or mistrials. Ripe and vulnerable, it sits in her young hands, its thrum a testament to the way that she makes him feel. And in a rush of catatonia, the youths burst forth into the night with the light of the stars above them and a sea of possibility ahead. It feels euphoric and calming at once, the kind of coursing electricity that thrums with vivacity and sensuality, neither of which he fully understands in his young age. As they cavort and laugh and run far past breathless, he finds himself glad that he is not a dreamer: for why would one dream when reality holds the true treasures? Why submit to the comfortable, when you could dance with the moon? Rhaegor @[Ivy] |
