    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    WELCOME TOTHE SHOW
It had been a long travel. Her hooves ached, and she was weary with exhaustion. But it was definitely worth it.

She had already lost two herds: the one she'd been born in, and the one she'd been welcomed into. Neither had been true herds, more bands of stragglers than anything. Hopefully a true herd, like the one she'd heard to have lived in Nerine, would be well-established enough to not fall apart at the first sign of trouble. Hopefully they would let her join; while she may not be the strongest, or largest horse, she was nice and fast, and hopefully they would find a use to her.

Ravenwing would happily be the herd punching bag if they took her in, so long as they did. She couldn't take care of herself on her own, didn't want to. The years of hard living showed on her body, her ribs visible through her pelt, and scars visible if one were close enough. She could help, somehow, so long as they let her try.

The black mare's head hung low, and her sides heaved as she walked. She'd not slept in days, heading towards the coast as fast as she could. She knew she was getting close; the place smelt of salt and sea-breeze, the soil under her hooves almost entirely sand, and the horizon dotted with the ocean.

She forced herself to perk up, sniffing the air. The black coated mare walked carefully down the cliff, finding herself to be standing on a beach, sand shifting under her hooves. The ocean sure was a sight, like nothing she'd seen before.

The young mare walked up to the ocean, and lifted her head up, content to simply drink in the sight of the ocean.

It didn’t happen often that strangers wandered into Nerine. Aside from herself – she had stumbled into Nerine just hours after her birth – nobody had this last year. Those accompanied by Nerinians weren’t strangers and unfamiliar faces that had been there before were neither. But even so, Nerine had been awfully quiet.

Like she had searched for Nayl, she had searched for Isobell, and she had failed at finding them both. There was no trace of Nerine’s seafroam queen, as if she had disappeared. Just as most of the other habitants. It had been ages since she and Starlin had last hung out, but perhaps that was only because Kahvi had overlooked the grullo’s army training from afar. Or hung out by herself at the beach.

Even though she wasn’t a sea creature, not like Isobell, she has a particular liking for the beach. She especially liked the sight of it at dawn and dusk, when the night sky started to color dark while the same orange that colored her coat showed. The sound of the water crashing on the beach is ever present, but right now Kahvi’s attention isn’t focussed on where the sea meets the horizon. Instead she curiously looks at an unfamiliar black form lounging at the beach.

The yearling filly’s first reaction is to glance around, to see if there was anybody else around to deal with this, but no, there was nobody. Her transparent wings are tucked against her sides, but it is not like she has enough experience flying to be able to use them to get away if necessary. ”Hello..” she greets the black mare a bit awkwardly. Like Starlin had once showed her, Kahvi offers the stranger a smile.

What was next? Oh right, introducing herself. ”I’m Kahvi.” Rather blunt and the answer leaves the conversation not really open for continuing. Which makes Kahvi glance around a bit awkwardly. Nerine. Perhaps that was something she could continue with. ”Are you new in Nerine?”

    Welcome tothe Show

Over the scent of the sea, Ravenwing picked up something else: the smell of horse. Under the familiar scent of hay and fur, she picked up something else, something that smelled like a bird. Feathers, perhaps? Her pointed ears twitched, picking up the crunching of sand beneath delicate hooves.

With one last breath facing the ocean, the scrawny mare turned around, looking upon the horse that approached her. It couldn't have been more than a yearling, small and leggy, with that familiar look of one who is growing too much, too fast. She was correct about the scent of feathers, as she could see clear wings tucked tight against the filly's sides. Her ears twitched at the sound of the filly's voice, and she shoved off her exhaustion long enough to return her greeting. "Hello to you as well."

The black mare forced a smile, inclining her angular head to the young horse. "My name is Ravenwing." she hesitated, hearing the filly speak again, before responding again, "I am, I was hoping to join the herd."

Never before had the midnight blue and sunset colored girl seen a horse that looked as skinny, exhausted. Nobody in Nerine had lacked the things that would lead up to such state. Kahvi was too young to know and realise that she might had been very much the same state if Nayl hadn’t found and taken her in.

Her silver eyes linger on the black mare’s from a little too long, before she’s able to look up and meet her gaze again. To get a greeting back is a huge first step for Kahvi. A smile tugs on the corners of her lips and she nods her head, only a little more was needed for her to start beaming. Getting a reply back did the trick. She flutters her transparent wings at her side, unlike her horns they didn’t have to grow first. The horns were just two little studs on her forehead.

Her lips part to reply, but what had Starlin said next? A little frown appears on her young features, and for a moment she’s lost in thoughts. Right, a welcome was in order. ”Welcome to Nerine then” she replies, rather proud of herself for remembering this. But there was one little thing the black mare was mistaken at. ”Nerine is not a herd though..” she offers a little sad. There was no herd to join and Kahvi is disappointed that in the end she would have nothing to tell Starlin.

”Nerine is a kingdom.. Isobell is the queen.” A queen Kahvi had been unable to locate. She’s too young to search too much behind it, but if she had known where Isobell was she curiously would’ve followed her sister. After all, Kahvi didn’t have one example to live up to, but three. And in order to do so, she had to study their each and every move. ”But if you want you can stay?” Starlin had offered Elindor a place in Nerine, so why couldn’t Kahvi?

    Welcome tothe Show

Feeling the young filly's stare, Ravenwing's ears flicked back slightly. She knew she wasn't much to look at, especially during such a spare Winter. It was likely that the filly hadn't seen anything like her before; from what she'd heard, horses in a herd tended to do well, and even grew fat on sweet grasses. It sounded like Heaven to her, and was part of the reason she was aiming to join a herd. That, and for protection. She wasn't strong, but fast, but fleeing at full gallop could only go so far... quite literally.

The Mare felt a smile tug at her mouth, seeing how excited such a simple answer seemed to make the yearling. The little filly was beginning to smile, quickly growing into a wide, excited beam. The black mare withheld a grin and a laugh, finding her spirits picked up just by being around such a happy little thing. She was given a better view of the filly's pretty wings, fluttering at her side, seeming to bend the air around them due to lacking any color. This up close, she could see the beginnings of horns on the filly's head, little more than tiny nubs, still covered in velvet.

Seeing a frown appear on the filly's muzzle, she cocked her head in confusion. Had she said something wrong? Was the filly not a part of Nerine. She opened her muzzle to thank her for the welcome, before the filly kept speaking, seeming downcast. Not a herd? She wondered. However, the filly quickly clarified, and she nodded. A kingdom... not a herd? That was odd. But still, a kingdom was still a gathering of horses, and she could make do with that. "Ah, I hadn't heard. I'd always assumed all groups of horses are known as herds." She felt slightly embarrassed, knowing it showed her rogue heritage. She'd always heard of herds, and bands, but never kingdoms.

She felt a strong sense of relief when the Filly offered for her to stay, and she bowed her head gratefully. "Thank you so much, I cannot say how much of a relief that is." Although she couldn't help but to wonder, did the filly have the authority to invite her?

    Differences make good sparks.
Life in a herd is something Kahvi is unfamiliar with. All she knows is Nerine, and that Nerine is a kingdom with Isobell as their queen. Before Isobell, their mother, Nayl, had reigned as the iron queen. And because of that the sunset colored girl doesn’t know how to explain how a kingdom differs from a herd. But a home is a home, right?

Hearing Ravenwing’s explanation the navy blue girl shakes her head, as if to confirm that groups of horses aren’t always a herd. ”There used to be herd, I think..” she offers, not sure if they were still common. ”But you can still stay. Will you stay?” Herds don’t interest Kavhi, with examples like her mother, sister queen and warrior Starlin, the quiet life of a herdmare wasn’t one she had ever considered. Instead she wants to be like Nayl, Isobell and Starlin, and keep Nerine safe as a warrior.

But before she would be able to do that, she’d have to grow first. In the mean time she could try to do what Starlin did, and actually help Nerine and her sister out. Not that Kavhi had properly met Isobell, something the navy blue and faint orange filly wants quite badly. Nerine’s too quiet and she’s rather lonely. That Ravenwing is willing to stay in Nerine is one step into fixing that. ”Yaay!” she exclaims, her transparent wings ruffling at her sides as she bounces on her front legs a couple of times.

”Would you like me to show you some awesome places in Nerine?!”

OOC: Sorry for keeping you waiting! I have another couple busy days ahead, but will try to reply asap!

    Welcome tothe Show

RavenWing found herself smiling at the young filly, wondering if she'd ever had so much energy. Perhaps it came with such bright coloring? If so, it made sense that she would have so little, all things considered. She was sure they struck as an odd pair; the little filly's fur was so bright, and she had those odd-looking wings. RavenWing, by contrast, was very plain looking, with little more than a pitch-black pelt.

As the filly spoke, the mare found herself wondering what had happened to the old herd. The little filly had said that there had once been a herd; did that mean it had despanded? Or been destroyed? And how was a kingdom different from a herd? It just sounded a little different.

Ravenwing chuckled at the little filly's show of excitement, bouncing her front legs as though trying to kill a snake. That was adorable, she decided, and she found herself smiling. The little filly's wings ruffled as though she was so excited she could just take off and fly.

The mare smiled gratefully, and nodded at Kahvi. "I would very much appreciate it."
