She’d been quietly aware of the striped intruders, trailing them at a lengthy distance through the fields, keeping a careful eye on them but not ready yet to approach. Even after all this time, Noah is shy, and they don’t seem to be posing a threat to her or her family, so for many weeks she does not make contact. They can’t be unaware of Noah and her family, of course; in addition to the little roan matriarch and her yearling daughter, Noah’s cousin has joined them with his two mates and their children. Somewhere, she is sure Aodhan still roams.
But something about new motherhood makes even Noah more trusting, and she approaches on silent hooves after giving mom and baby a few minutes to bond alone. She makes a point to rustle her wings and take a couple of steps without muffling them with new growth of grass heavy underfoot, trying not to surprise the mare and foal. “Hello,” she murmurs quietly, offering a small smile from bright eyes. “She’s beautiful,” Noah takes a moment to compliment the mare’s achievement, because most new mothers appreciate that.
“I’m Noah,” she offers after a moment, curiosity bleeding into her whisper-quiet words. Is this a new friend, or a threat to her peaceful home?
