    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

As soon as she spoke of her family, he could feel his heart drop. He had no clue… and now suddenly, he felt terrible for assuming this whole adventure was nothing more than a game. Clark had never been more than a child at heart, and he had never encountered any serious adult matters to help him mature. With quite a typical (although in Beqanna-sense, an untypical) boring childhood and two loving parents, he was fortunate enough to escape many of the dysfunctional families he had seen in these lands.

But at the same time, he could feel his interest mounting: Who was her family? Why had she lost them? Did something happen to them?

As she lowered herself, the tobiano stallion gingerly stepped closer to her. His muzzle crept towards her as she spoke, and very lightly did he brush against her shoulder – his best attempt at comforting her. He never had been a touchy-feely type of horse, and truth be told, he was not a very sensitive guy – but he was trying! He pulled his head away after a brief moment, in case his touch was not well received.

“Hey,” he said after a moment, his voice now lacking the jest of earlier, but with a new tone of warmth. “This was a great adventure. Thanks for showing me such a beautiful world.” he said softly, a sincere smile beginning to emerge upon his lips.

He pondered her next statement for a moment. “Are you sure?” he responded hesitantly. He didn’t want to drag her away from this snowy realm if she wasn’t ready, and he himself was still curious. “There isn’t anything you’ll need to finish here? Nothing I can help with?” he added, wondering whether there was anything he could do to help relieve some of her anguish.
