Blue glances over at Bean, his soft smile matching the expression in his bright eyes. The muted good-nature rises to the surface at the white mare’s exuberant greeting. She reminds him of Bean, he thinks, two bubbly personalities. What good fortune to have encountered them both, the brindled stallion thinks. Good fortune seems to be all that he has had since he arrived on the tropical island, and Blue is not inclined to question it. Instead, he gives daily thanks to the fairies both for this paradise and for Ruinam who had brought him here and keeps their home safe.
It is as if the thought summons the pale horse. Blue’s ears swivel back, catching the familiar combination of both hooves and small paws on the sand. Only one pair of creatures on the island resort makes such a noise, and so when Ruinam and his vulpine companion come to join the tri, Blue is already flashing them a warm smile of welcome.
Isilya – Isi – asks them what their favorite flower is, and Blue listens curiously to his leader’s description of his favorite flower. His eyes do start to widen, but return to a normal size as Ruinam assures them that the toxic flower he most enjoys does not grow on the island. Blue thinks for a moment – there are many flowers on this island resort – and finally says: “I like the gooseberry flowers. Mostly because they become delicious snacks a few months after they bloom.”
