    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

heaven help a fool who falls in love

Adalyn didn’t think she would love a place as much as she loves the Jungle. She’s only been in the wild kingdom since the beginning of fall, but each day she wakes and her heart beats with excitement all over again. Her reckless heart loves the constant noise, the endless chatter of monkeys and roaring of jaguars and cawing of birds and hush of streams and buzz of insects. The Dale had been too quiet of a place for her wanderlust of a heart. She loves and has loved its mighty mountains, peaceful springs, and calm waters. But it is a childhood love; a place she travels to when she wants to reminisce.

The Jungle is her home now, she knows that full well.

The black and gold mare has been meaning to travel to the Field, to sniff out bold women who might be interested in living in the Jungle. The winter has held her back, however. Her body adjusted well to the muggy temperatures of the kingdom and the thought of adventuring past the warm borders into colder territory has kept her from traveling. From the way the sun has begun to set later in the days, Adalyn knows spring is rapidly approaching. And so she heads toward the border, intent on waltzing into the Field and hopefully bringing someone back with her.

However, as Adalyn reaches the border, there are two mares. By the scents they carry, the water girl knows they have come from the direction she intends to travel. A carefree smile brightens her face as she comes to a stop near them. “Hi there!” Her voice is lower than a normal mare’s, but there is an optimistic lift to it. “Welcome to the Jungle. I’m Adalyn.” She leaves it at that, mainly because she doesn’t know what else to say. Adalyn hasn’t met any other Amazonians other than Riva and she can’t figure out which of them is the new recruit. Or maybe both of them are.

So she settles for smiling recklessly again and flicking her ears forward, intently waiting for one of them to answer.
