    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    What... Happened?
    #1
All she could remember was a light. She didn't know what it had meant at first. It surrounded her home, the place called the Falls, like the loving embrace of a dam to her foal. But there had been something ominous about this light. Raxa had gotten a bad feeling as the kingdom was swallowed by it. She heard a couple of cries of fear, obviously some horses who had become trapped. A few she recognized... Anahi, Nitika... Nerius... Eiria... and others. Then, the brindled mare had been swallowed by the light, her vision going dark within seconds.

She didn't know how long she had been asleep for, only that, when she finally awoke, her belly was quite cold. With a loud, pained groan, the brindled mare woke, her electric blue eyes slowly opening as she tried to adjust. Her eyes still ached from the brightness. Still trying to figure out what happened, the mare, despite her aching limbs, rolled up from her position of laying on her side, and heaved herself so she was now lying on her belly.

She lifted her tired head, looking around. She couldn't really see much; hell, she couldn't even tell where she was. There was a thin layer of fog surrounding her, thin enough that she could make out what was around her, but that she didn't recognize it. Where was she? What had happened that day after she finished...

Wait, what had she been doing? That was strange; she couldn't remember what had happened before-

Beqanna... the lands... she'd felt it in her bones. The land was changing; it was angry. She could feel the earth quaking beneath her hooves before everything changed, though she couldn't remember exactly how it had happened. Only that she was out doing something she figured was important enough to ignore the foal growing in her belly, or else she wouldn't have been doing something that dangerous.

Stretching out her front legs, the brindled mare threw her weight forward, extending her front legs some to support the weight. Moving her back legs so that they were now under her, the mare successfully got to her hooves, albeit a bit painfully since she was still sore. Her belly was still cold, and looking down, she could now see why. She'd been lying on a bed of grass still wet with dew, something that, for some reason, made her feel uneasy.

Every bone in her body told her something wasn't right... she just didn't know what it was. The mare took a couple of steps forward, looking around carefully for anything that might identify where she was. She was so busy doing that, she almost missed what happened next.

Without warning, the ground beneath her front hoof disappeared. The mare reared in shock, using her hind legs to take a step back so that she wouldn't go tumbling forward. Once she was safe, Raxa stretched out her neck, trying to see what had happened.

By the gods... it was a cliff!

Taking another step closer, Raxa looked out over the edge; it was quite a long way down. Thanking every or any deity that had watched over her so she hadn't gone over the side, the mare's thoughts drifted to the little one growing inside her before realizing what was going on.

She still couldn't see too well past the mist, but she could tell something; she was on top of a mountain. The lands around her, from what she could see, looked incredibly different. Still, something told her it was her home, no matter what.

Beqanna... what had happened to it? How much had it changed?

The mare suddenly grew very worried for her friends, her comrades in battle. She turned around and began walking again, calling out a couple of their names to see who responded.

"Jedi?! Sunfall?! Nitika?! Anahi?! Anyone?" she called out, worried she would not hear any replies.
