    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    What... Happened?
    #10
Raxa did not look back, knowing how dangerous it was to let her gaze falter from the path in front of her. The mare had to remain focused; she didn't want to be rude by thinking this, but out of the three of them, Sunfall was the most nervous, even if Raxa was pregnant herself. The brindled mare had learned to keep calm in the most dangerous of situations, even though her flight instincts said otherwise.

At times, she would run if she knew the fight wasn't worth it. But, well, this wasn't exactly a fight, now was it? If Raxa started showing signs of nervousness, then Sunfall would pick up on that. She might start to panic, and that would put not only her life in danger, but the little one as well.

So, for the sake of the pregnant mare, Raxa would fight her instincts, and remain calm. She continued to carefully pick her way down, following the path set for them by the other horses. Everything was going fine for a while, until she came around a small bend in the path. Her senses told her something wasn't right; danger was nearby. And not the kind that possessed large claws on each paw or fangs as white as the winter snow.

No, this danger was much different, but dangerous just the same. Raxa's eyes scanned in front of her, spotting something strange on the path. She took a step forward, and immediately wished she hadn't. A piece of the path began to crack under the pressure of her weight, and she followed it, watching with wide eyes as a piece of the edge of the path broke off and tumbled down the mountainside.

Snorting with frustration, and anger at having to face a new challenge, Raxa turned her head around to look at Jedi and Sunfall, "There's a part of the path down here that's starting to break. Keep away from the edge; get as close to the side of the mountain as you can so your weight won't cause the earth to crack anymore," she explained.

The mare took her own advice, wedging her body against the side of the mountain. Her breathing was quick as she kept an eye on the path as well as the part that was breaking. She could feel it shake under her hooves a little, but by the time she got across, the path was still stable enough that it would hold the weight of Jedi and Sunfall.

When Raxa reached the part of the path past the cracking edge, it widened out a bit so that she could turn around to look at her friends. With a calm voice, she called up to them, "Take it one at a time. Keep looking forward, focus on where you're going, and keep as close to the wall as you can."
