    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

God, everything is just happening so fast!

He’d been on the outskirts of the Jungle, returning another ‘successful’ trip to the playground (aka he’d managed to avoid everyone present), when the world had suddenly, well … imploded.

The very land beneath his feet had begun to shift and shake, and within moments the Jungle before him had disappeared before his very eyes. Then the exodus had begun. Horses had begun streaming away from the remains of the kingdom, all of them heading towards a massive mountain that had suddenly appeared from thin air. He hadn’t been able to find Riva among them, and so for lack of a better plan he had followed the crowd, ending up, as so many had, on the Mountain just as the fairy had decided to make its presence known.

He hadn’t really understood much of what the fairy had said and had quickly left the mountain upon realizing that Riva wasn’t there, but what he had discovered after leaving the mountain, had truly excited him. His problem, his horrible, embarrassing problem, was gone. And not only that, his wings had started growing back in!

They’d started as just feathers poking out of his stumps, but now, a few days later, he has the makings of proper little wings. He can’t wait until they’ve grown big enough for him to actually fly!! He just wishes he could show Riva …

And, miracle of miracles, he’s afforded the opportunity when he spots the tobiano mare as he rounds an old pine. His luck just keeps getting better and better.

“RIVA, RIVA, RIVA!” He bounces up to his guardian, completely oblivious to the fact that this sudden personality change will come as quite the surprise to the poor mare. “MY WINGS ARE GROWING BACK!” He wheels in a quick circle, flapping his little black wings just to make sure she can get a good look at them. Then his voice drops to a whisper. “And … and … my problem is gone!”
