    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

She awoke with moisture in her eyes and warmth at her back. Conflicting emotions twisted inside her, carried in on waves of sad dreams. She felt so lost, so alone, so forgotten. Abandoned. A lone tear spilled over as she ducked her head to resettle herself. But there was a firmness to the warmth at her back, and for a moment she thought Siberian had come back for her as she slept.

Her ears perked up and her eyes brightened as she swung her head around to see him -but it was Orion, the gray man, and not Siberian. Her face fell, and she wiggled in closer to him. He'd been kind, safe. He'd stayed with her all through the night. Already awake, too, as he scanned the area with purpose as he probably had for most the night. He was so watchful, like her. She liked that.

She was glad that mare had wandered off after a time, too. Mares were strange and uncomfortable. Orion wasn't. He was calm, and big, and safe. And sometimes he talked funny.

Azar, she'd said so softly when the woman was well and away from them. Like it was a secret to keep safe and treasured. My name. She'd given him a short nod for emphasis, and then promptly cuddled in and fell asleep. She lay much the same way now, her rump tucked in just behind his shoulder and her chest at his belly. He was quite big compared to little her.

Now they were both awake, though, and she didn't feel like sleeping more. Hunger scraped and clawed at her empty tummy. She turned her head, and straightened her neck to chew at his hip. She found that she liked touching him. Nipping at him was super fun too, because it never seemed to hurt him even the tiniest bit.

Can we eat now? her soft voice sang to him as she stuffed her little nose in the soft spot between his hip and belly. He smelled nice. Siberian still had not returned, but she thought maybe if they ate nearby he'd still be able to find her. Because she was so small, and needed to eat. He would not want her to go hungry for too long.

She turned to peer at Orion with big doe-eyes, naturally deferring to him for guidance.
