    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Burn baby burn! - Circinae, Ruan, any
    #11
A memory stirs. There’s a black wolf, shaggy and large with eyes of the palest blue and a deep, purple lion on his shoulder. Beside him, a thinner, sooty grey beast sat, his own emerald eyes boring into her for a reason she cannot remember. They had been pack back then, snapping at her sides when she tried to match their pace in the hunt, rolling her without reason onto her back if she neared too close to a kill, holding her with jaws nearly closed should she ever rise to meet their anger. Fierce, dangerous, deadly. The memory ends, and then there’s only Ruan beside her, a sinful ebony beast that electrifies her skin and reminds her what it really means to be wolf again.

She’s shocked that she almost forgot. “Alpha.” She names him then, and her pink tongue glides swiftly across her fore fangs before she sneezes, as if to wipe the snarl completely from her face. Newly wet, her nose presses coldly into the hollow of his shoulder, tucking his scent away in the back of her mind so that she can seek him out in any shape. And just like that - the tension breaks. Her stiff tail relaxes, even goes as far to wag a few rounds before she circles him. He’s larger than her by far, much more impressive. Not as thick-furred as the wolf of her memories, nor as wiry as the grey, but a sleek, imposing sort of animal. She halts only when they’ve become parallel, nimble front legs stretching outward so that she can hunch low to the earth playfully.

In this body, there was an untapped source of energy, a need for companionship and order. Her mouth opens, a low whine piercing the air around them. “Food, hunger!” She thinks, leaping up to nip him lightly on the cheek before dashing ahead to the crowded forest. It was safe to be herself here, safe to welcome the predator and enjoy what she could accomplish. Her slender head peers over her shoulder, back to where her shadowy counterpart lingers. “Hunt.”

She needed him, and for once that was alright.
