    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    you can have my isolation,
you can have the hate that it brings.
He is stirred from his reverie by movement along the southern border – two distant figures (though perhaps not so distant from him – his refined eyesight is capable of so much) shuffling through the shallow sea, as the salty brine of the ocean encapsulates them in her grasp. He does not immediately stir, instead observing their soft caresses and gentle, but fervent kisses – clearly, nothing had changed in their dynamic, but so much had changed in their absence.

His own heart longed for such companionship, but it was not within reach – the fire burned brightly inside of him, so much more fiercely than ever before, and it stirred a flicker of fear and uncertainty in the eye of his beloved. She (his Isle) had not looked at him the same in some time – he was some distant, unreachable force, burning from the inside out, as the pyrokinesis reaches out to touch the frayed edges of his soul. He can only stomach their devotion to one another for so long, before averting his gaze to the ground, though his heavily muscled legs carry himself towards them nonetheless.

      Strangers.

Time had come and gone, and in its place, the familiarity and connection he had once felt for Sahm and Newton had faded into strangeness. He remembered the comfort of their support, the warmth of their voices – but their allegiance had faltered; given instead to Taiga – where Romek had founded his own crumbling empire, taking away his daughter and his grandchildren, creating a rift no time could mend (though he does not fault them for this – it was not Romek they were allied with).

He is uncertain of them now.

Uncertain of their purpose, but longing for days long passed where things seemed simpler.
Yearning for their kinship once more.

”Sahm. Newton. What brings you to Tephra?”
you can have my absence of faith,
    you can have my everything.
