    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Pod has always been a good kid, at least to his own eyes.

Sure, his mother had abandoned him and he's too antisocial to get out there and make friends by himself, but that doesn't make him a bad kid... he hopes. His mother had dropped him in the Meadow—not even the adoption grounds, but such is her personality—just days after his birth and discovering that he, like her, had been rendered "useless" by the Reckoning. She apparently hadn't taken well to losing her powers, and had no time for a powerless kid, either. But he was never bad, aside from waking her up for meals in the middle of the night. Does that call for abandonment?

Like Isobell, he too is standing on the banks of the River when a cold drizzle starts to fall, staring out across the water. Within moments the drizzle develops into a freezing, sleeting rain, and he backs quickly away from the water as his white upper half becomes drenched with rainwater and starts to fade into grey. He shivers as he hurries towards the shelter of the trees, but is stopped by a voice calling after him. Quickly he turns, water streaming into his blue eyes as he blinks rapidly, trying to clear them.

The black and white girl catches up to him and they hurry the rest of the way to shelter together, and her body briefly brushes his as she squeezes under the fir tree with him. Embarrassed, he can't help but draw another step away from her, and dips his head awkwardly as she apologizes. "No, um, apology needed," he responds, teeth chattering slightly from the cold. "I'm Podrick. O-or Pod, whichever you like, really."
