    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The Bastards, The Vultures, The Wolves [Solace/Kaiode/Any]
    #11

the secret of our world is written in the stars

The tiny little colt that is technically his little brother has fascinated Svedka from the start. The palomino and ivory colt did not treat Kaiode with fragility or worry, despite knowing his adopted brother’s trials and trepidations that he’s already experienced in such a short life. The two were rather rambunctious together, which made the worry on Tang and Solace’s features become more apparent and noticeable, but Svedka could not help encouraging Kaiode to explore and adventure with him. Today, though, perhaps it is good that the blue-streaked twin decides to go his own way on his own.

He is still young, but with each day he continues to grow stronger and bigger, his muscles forming beneath his beautiful painted coat, becoming more confident with his legs. He especially enjoys that his mane and tail are growing longer and more flowing, desperately wishing that he could have the long, wild mane that his parents have. The red and black feather that is tucked neatly behind his ear is beginning to disappear beneath the white and blue of his mane, however short it may be. Slender legs purposely allow him to leap and bound over tiny rivulets of magma, humming to himself and he jumps from each hardened surface of lava rock to the next.

A scream shatters his calm thoughts, causing his legs to stand perfectly straight beneath him and his muscles to tense beneath his skin. It is Solace’s voice, he didn’t even have to try and think about it, and it is not a sound he enjoys hearing. For the first time in his short life, true fear fills his heart as he feels his body becoming cold with dread. He is frozen for just a second before he leaps expertly through the way that he had come, his intense blue eyes set on finding his sister.

When he arrives, it is just as the brilliant beam of light flashes from Solace’s forehead, blinding him and causing him to stagger and slow. He calls to her with a confused and frightened whinny, blinking wildly as he impatiently waits for his sight to come back. The first thing he sees is the familiar stallion standing over the two that are easily seen as Solace and Kaiode. He is frozen in fear yet again, watching as pleas leave their lips in strain and grief, understanding completely what has happened to his adopted brother.

“Solace,” he breathes so quietly, so delicately, to her as he walks to her side, her knees bloodied and bruised from her own fall. His pale muzzle presses gently to her neck, hoping his touch would encourage her more than his words. He waits for her to look at him.

“It’s time to go,” he murmurs softly, nudging her. His blue eyes, crystal clear and glazed with the threat of unshed tears, glance to Diable Rouge and to Kaiode – but he is Kaiode no more.
