    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

[private]  Our Love Will Last A Lifetime [Diable Rouge] birthing
    #2

    Phoebus

Many months were spent curled inside the dark womb of his mother. Gaining nutrients through a simple tube, ever growing, ever changing. His body, shifting from the size of a pea to a good hundred pounds.

But he is tired of the cramped confines of her uterus, and he is now ready to emerge.

It is involuntary, completely instinctual, and the contractions move him into position, front hooves first. He isn't sure how long his mother is pushing, but before he knows it he is on the ground, legs kicking violently to release himself from the sac of fluid around him. The world outside is cold at first, but soon he feels the warmth of his mother's tongue. A once racing heart begins to beat slower, and finally he finds the courage to open his eyes, blinking through the blurriness to find a whole new world.

The first face he finds is the dipped caramel head of his mother. She is smiling, and he knows immediately that she is the one who has been carrying him all these months. She nickers to him softly, telling the colt to try to stand, to join her.

Unsure, he begins to try. His spindly legs find supporting his weight difficult at first; the first time he crumples back to the grass immediately, the second, his legs wobble then give out. Finally, the third time he is standing shakily, taking several meager steps towards his mother, stomach rumbling for something to eat.

In no time, he finds her teats, and begins to suckle greedily at them. Hunger is a cruel beast, and he hardly is listening as she excitedly yells for someone to come near. "It's a boy Rou! What should we name him?" The colt stops his feeding for a moment, looking from under her stomach to the figure approaching them. The stallion is huge, coat a sparkling crimson color. He bends his neck to look directly at the blue-eyed boy, and smiles.

"Phoebus. His name should be Phoebus."
