    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Diable Rouge was good at a lot of things, but this was something he was unsure of how to approach. The first contraction only causes Aurora to wince slightly, but the grimace on her face causes him to gasp. His eyes grow worried, but she tries to reassure him she is okay.

"We should go home." The moment those words escape her lips, the chaser is leaping into action. He follows close by her side, helping her move through the obvious pain she is feeling. He can feel his heart beating rapidly in his chest; he knows what's going to happen next.

They soon find their cozy nook, and only then is when the contractions begin to get worse. His love is nearly crippled by them, falling to lay on her side. "I'm right here, my love, it'll be okay." He assures her, but is careful not to get too close - her body would do the work instinctively.

A brief moment of time passes, but it feels like a lifetime. He watches Aurora push, her body covered in a thick layer of sweat. It is all he can do to keep himself from rushing over to her, but instead he allows her to do what she has always wanted to do, give birth to a child.

And then, as quickly as it had began, it is over, and she is cleaning the amniotic fluid from the child's small frame. The boy stands, wobbles over to her, begins to drink. "It's a boy, Rou! What should we name him?" The roan moves closer to his son, letting out a small, excited breath of air...the boy looks just like him. Staring into his child's bright blue eyes, the stallion allows himself to smile brightly.

"Phoebus. His name should be Phoebus." A perfect name for a perfect child.
in the eye of a hurricane, there is quiet.
