    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

[private]  if my heart should somehow stop [suli]
    #4

The shape is moving. It seems at first distorted to her, like he really could be made of smoke, those tendrils reaching up and up, there to play tricks on a mind so exhausted by them. Tricks that made her go left instead of right, up instead of down, tempted her away from the safety of where she was supposed to be. Her sense of direction has always been lacking, and that's perhaps why she stayed in that meadow for so long when he first came barreling into her life. Why she refused to leave in fear of what lay beyond it and where her hooves might wander. And now standing here Suli does not trust her own mind until that shape is hurdling up the hill.

Much akin to that first night she remains planted where she is, slender legs of stone, until that last moment when he gets there sooner than expected. In that heartbeat she skips back, although not soon enough to entirely avoid a body halfway slamming into her own. She stumbles a beat then rights herself, seeming more distant and disoriented to the events than hurt by them. You. Of course it's her. Suli blinks away the surprise coloring her vision, about to say something yet silenced by the conflict warring viciously across his features. It's not the first time she's seen that look; the one that seems as if it could rip him in two and both halves come out entirely different souls. That wouldn't be right though. Not real. She wants him complete. How he is.

"Pernicies-" she pipes just before he's suddenly against her. She does not flinch, a pillar against the shuddering that trebles between them. A strong neck snakes around her own, muzzle brushing hers, enveloping her in an embrace of warmth and breath. Suli presses her side against the muscles of his frame as if the instinct to be afraid of this dangerous force of nature has fled her entirely. It doesn't matter that he could easily rip someone in two when the only safety in the world is right here, and if he would have chained her to him she would have gone willingly. Home. It's finally found her again.

Swallowing thickly, the mare remains silent for a long while, tuned into the tension wracking his frame and the palpable chaos tormenting his skull. Only after many minutes does she finally speak up again. Eyes go a bit wide as they sweep around the moonlit landscape she hardly recognizes. On whim a step carries her a centimeter off as if she doesn't even know she's moving at all. "I got lost," she confesses, trying to remember the day their paths parted until only loneliness threatened to consume her. She'd much rather this beast consume her than that dreaded sensation of lost returning. "There was a raven..." It had flown and she had followed, and when her eyes found the earth again she was far, far away. Remembering this Suli shuffles back a margin, seeking out the anchor of the warmth that is his ashen hide.
