    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The girl is cautious, a trait that Scorch is not used to in children. Her own had taken up bravery and foolhardiness, though she knew exactly from whence those characteristics came... Looking back at her own childhood, Scorch can't help but chuckle as her daughter watches and walks alongside her. As a child, she had been head strong, brash, impulsive - and it had taken possibly more than seventy years, and death, for that to change.

The last stretch of their journey is the hardest on her small charge, Scorch can tell. Her steps are less confident, jumpy at all the new sensory information bombarding her. But Mina does well, sticking close and never complaining, whining, or crying. For an abandoned child, she is courageous, and Scorch's heart swells in love for the child. Even though it is a courage unlike that which her genetics inspired, it is a courage that is equally as valuable, and one that she shall encourage and help to thrive.

Finally, as the forest falls further around them and the scent of other horses lessens somewhat, Scorch halts. It is a thicket they have come to, secluded, private. The bushes press in warmly and create a sort of enclosure: it is a place to call their own, and as like to the spot in the Jungle where she had raised her previous children as she could find.

"Come eat, Philomena." Her charred muzzle reaches out and puts pressure on the girl's tiny spotted rump, encouraging her to nestle beneath Scorch's belly. Although she had not been pregnant, nor does her body possess the anatomy required to produce milk, the faeries had granted her the ability to produce for her adopted child, as they always do in these scenarios. Usually, mares who are already producing milk will adopt foals; but in this case, the faeries had added some magic and helped Scorch to provide for her daughter.

When the spotted girl's pops from Scorch's teat, her stomach fully satisfied, Scorch nickers warmly and grooms her baby fur, coaxing her to lie down at her powerful hooves.

"Sleep, daughter. In the morning, I will show you the kingdom." And so they stay, Scorch gently guiding her daughter to sleep and then standing guard, her heart full for the first time in far too long.

(OOC - if you want to post again and have Mina wake up in the morning, that's awesome!! If you want to start a new thread and have Mina aged a bit and they can interact more as adults ish, that's awesome too!! And of course you may now post to anyone in the kingdom, and I bet if you put up an 'any' post you would get a reply from another Nerinian <3 I'm so excited to have Mina be a part of the family! <3333)
