    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

As the days passed by into weeks and months, the colt felt his inner desire to seek out his mother ebbing from his conscious thought. He looked for her less, and found that he was developing his own scent that was unique from hers. He had no feelings about this, really, it was just the way things were. He still enjoyed seeing his mom and spending time with her and his sister - but it didn't sting quite as much as it used to when she had to leave him alone.

So it was that he was thoroughly engrossed in following a very particular red beetle as it shimmied its way up the trunk of a palm, and he didn't notice his mother's stealthy approach. He jumps at her touch and the flames of his mane and tail disappear for a moment - sending up a little plume of grey smoke before reigniting. He twirls to smile shakily at his mom, embarrassed at how easily he was startled (making a mental note to be more aware of his surroundings from now on). "Moooommmm...." he groans in the tone of a child that knows his parent has gotten the best of them. But her following question quickly distracts him from his embarrassment and his eyes alight with the possibility of adventure. "Where are we going!?" He asks excitedly, sparks flying from his crest making him look like some sort of celebration. He prances to his mother's side and nudges her expectantly. "Can we go now?!"
