    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

    "But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    AEMAR || RAELYX

    His prey does not speak to him when he kills it - but even if it did, it would not dissuade the powerful crunch of his beak through its skull.

    He flies alone this night, having left his brother Raelyx to visit with Galilee and Khaeli and to watch the stars from Ischia's coastline. His little red brother feels keen to spend time with their family as often as possible, but Aemar can't find it within himself to share that urge. Yes, it had been nice to see them all again on the day of Khaeli's birth; but from there, he's felt caged whenever he sees them all again. He dislikes the closeness, the familiarity, and the feeling that somehow his father expects his eldest son to commit to the kingdom he rightfully belongs in.

    But Aemar is more son of magic than he'll ever be son of Galilee and Brennen.

    White and grey and eccentric, the stallion traveled this night as a jungle eagle. Cunning yellow eyes peered out from the thick feathering as he flew through the thermals, peering keenly to the forest floor below. He'd come south-west from Ischia after leaving Raelyx, and it did not take long until he spotted the river and followed its glimmering waters in the search for prey. Raelyx never enjoyed the half-carnivore's hunger for blood and flesh - but the bone-clad stallion did not accompany Aemar tonight, and so, he hunted.

    Flash.

    With calculated precision, the bird pinned his wings to his sides and dove to ground level. The thrum of his prey's panicked heart was heard by his avian ears, and its beating sent a thrill through Aemar. Talons outstretched, the poor rabbit had only a kick of its hind legs before it became ensnared in the jungle eagle's deathly grasp. The scent of blood quickly filled the air as Aemar settled his massive wings to his sides. Chirping a final goodbye to his meal, the bird reached out a single talon and snapped the rabbit's neck at harsh angle, a sickening (to some) crunch accompanying the sudden movement.

    Deftly removing the red-brown fur, Aemar sunk into his meal with little attention to the scene around him; the sound of the rabbit's flesh leaving its bones overwhelmed even the burbling of the river. It was only as the massive bird suckled on the delectable last bits of meat that his yellow eyes happened to glance upward - and when they did, they latched on to her.

    A mare, black and spotted as he was chestnut and spotted in horse form. He paused in his suckling to eye her, wondering if she'd heard him feasting. A tentative churr came from his short curved beak, curiosity distracting him from the last bites of his meal. Grabbing the bone that'd been resting in his mouth with a deft talon, Aemar stepped towards the mare, and as he did, he transformed.

    At sixteen hands tall, the Arabian stallion stood entirely as a horse save for the four talons that now attached themselves to each of his hooves, as well as the beak that stood in place of a muzzle. He kept not the wings this day, preferring the maneuverability of bareness as he inhaled the scent of the mare's autumn hormones. Another churr came from his beak once more, those clearly avian eyes meeting her own piercingly.

    "Hello," He said in his strange, other-worldly voice - the words sounding somehow at once like birdsong and language. "Lovely night for a hunt, wouldn't you say, my darling?" Shifting subtly, the stallion gave himself the ability to smile despite the beak, and he did - the expression slightly devious, but also extremely interested. The distance between them was not much - he could reach out and touch her - but instead, he waits.

    He'd had his fun with the rabbit - but hunger oft returns when delicacies present themselves.
