    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Tähti
we are stars wrapped in skin

She’s small, but not as small as the black roan baby; appearing at about 2 months old while her mind is one at 2 years, the dark filly knows not to interrupt the birthing process. It grosses her out and fascinates and excites her all at once, like any teenage girl would have. But when the mother finally stands to clean the foal, she can no longer hide. She closes the distance that she had kept previously, out of fear and respect and a sense that some things needed to be done alone.

She’s a bold girl; black like Briseis, though she already know she won’t stay that way over summer, having greyed before. But in the face of a young mother and her newborn filly, she is still tiny. She flutters her wings, their sound softly rustling. The mother names the baby, and when the baby is clean, the young girl takes a breath. ”Hi. I’m Tähti.” she tells them - her, mostly, since the baby is so new she probably doesn’t know how to talk yet. Not much anyway.

Curiously, she looks from one to another. Had the mother arrived when she was in Nerine? Or maybe only just later, coming here for the sanctuary to give birth? She’d never seen her before, that’s the one thing she knew.
