    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

We are at war. There will be scars.

Perhaps if he were a different kind of horse he'd be more responsive to her flirtations. But he is Erebor, he is not interested in love or lust, but the Chamber's strength. And so he greets her with his smile, his handsome smile that could mean so many different things. She starts to respond to him when he feels the air grow more chill and hears an unnatural crackle of ice.

Erebor is not an idiot, but he is not easily scared. He turns slowly to look at the approaching stallion, who had so clearly heralded his approach with the crackle of ice. His ears flick back in momentary annoyance. This stallion is not a source of fear; he's just an obstacle in the way of what the Chamber needs, which is this mare.

Shards spring up from the ground, but Erebor does not move. He stands his ground. If this stallion wants to outright attack him or harm him, let him do it. Erebor is not arrogant enough to presume that he alone could best a horse that could skewer him with a shard of ice, but he fully expects that the Chamber, working together, could do it easily enough.

The stallion himself comes into view, larger than Erebor both in stature and in ego. Erebor cocks his head, listening to the stallion with apparent interest, but obviously unimpressed. He may not be one to stand up for the rights of mares for chivalry's sake, but this is a potential Chamber member – he doesn't fancy seeing her pushed around. But he also doesn't feel she needs his protection. She might flounce and pretend, but it's obvious to him she knows her own mind and her own strength.

And when she speaks, his assumption is thoroughly proven correct. She spits her words right back at him, entirely unafraid, and the boy can't help but smile, just a little bit. He now has no doubt that he'd make a fine addition to the Chamber.

"Talzanna." her name rolls off his tongue as he ignores the other stallion and focuses on her. "A pleasure." his smile is small but not without warmth. "The Chamber is one of the oldest kingdoms of Beqanna." he says, his voice deep and pleasant. "Our members are strong, powerful. We are home to warriors and diplomats alike. There is a place in the Chamber for any horse who would make themselves great." he pauses again, his eyes flicking to the grey stallion for just a moment. "Those who don't have that capacity tend not to stay long." his voice is casual, silky. It might be an insult, a dig at the other man – but it could just as easily be a statement for the education of the woman before him.

"The Chamber is a beautiful land of pine trees and clearings. Beneath the ground, the heart of one of our most ancient heroes beats." His grandfather, Atrox. He wonders idly if Belgarath might know the name. "Straia is queen there, and Kavi leads the diplomatic caste. But there is always room to prove yourself and to advance." He smiles then, his eyes fixed on Talzanna. "If you'd like to see it for yourself, I'm happy to take you there."

His eyes flick to the other stallion for just a moment then, feeling in his bones that the still-unnamed ice-wielder would probably make trouble if he didn't get Talzanna to accompany him, wherever it was he was from. Erebor doesn't recognize his scent, so he figures it's probably a herd rather than a kingdom. Whatever the stallion might try, Erebor is unafraid – prepared if the stallion starts trouble, but not afraid.
