    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Dawn has always dreamed of kingdom life, but who could imagine that she would eventually find her way to one? The golden girl—now blossoming into a pretty young woman—was raised on tales of the kingdoms of old and new, and though her mother no longer resides within a kingdom, Dawn has always felt that irresistible pull. Perhaps she is too much like a youthful version of her mother, who was always drawn back to the Valley where she was raised, but the little bear doesn’t mind being like her mother. Cress has taken care of herself all of these years—Dawn can only hope to be like her one day (if only she knew!).

She remembers her Sunny once telling her about the kingdom in which he lived, and it had all sounded just so wonderful to the girl. Hyaline, it’s called, and the way he described it (in jerking, halting words, but words all the same!) it had sounded like heaven. Besides, who wouldn’t want to live with their best friend? It is true that it had taken him a long time to speak around her, but the two have been fast friends since the day they met on the Playground. She had begged her mother to let her join the kingdom with him, but it had taken her until Cress had decided she was old enough to live on her own. Parents.

So now she is here, standing on the edge of a crystal-clear lake. Literally, it’s crystal clear—she can see right down to the lake floor. Deeper into the lake she can see the shapes of trees that sank years before her time and she can’t help but draw in an amazed breath as she takes it all in.

However, now is not the time to explore. She’ll explore later, once she has located Sunny. He had promised to meet her here once she was finally able to escape her mother’s clutches, and she’s going to take his word for it that this is where they’ll meet. “Oh, Sunny,” she calls in a singsong voice, knowing that he is the only one—aside from Clayton, who, unbeknownst to her, is also here—who will recognize the nickname. She is just so excited.
