    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The pungent odor infiltrates her nose and she exhales sharply to rid herself of it.  They had been warned that these lands were unsafe, but Ischia was her home and she couldn't just leave it to rot.

Kwartz smells is too but nothing further happens so she dismisses it to a rotting carcass of sea life nearby.  The lines of her profile are deepened with concern still as her eyes shift to where she has come from.  The bargain she had just made sits tight in her chest, unknowing if it was the wise choice.  But she couldn't take it back now.

Attention returns to Kwartz as she explains of what she knows, "The plague has reached this island.  Krom was coming to help get anyone who remained here to Tephra where it is safe if they wished... I have yet to run into anyone."  That wished to leave, she wants to say but holds it to herself.

Kwartz doesn't often show concern and it surprises her some to see it on his face now.  Was it that obvious the apprehension she has?  She chuckles softly to cover her fears, "It's nothing Kwartz... Must just be the vacancy of this place.  I remember it more lively."   Pushing her worries aside she smiles to her brother.  He was the complete opposite of Krom and it was a breath of fresh air.  She felt as though she could breathe easy alongside Kwartz.

Her eyes shift to the inlands again, "Well... Better get back to looking... Maybe you can get a better view from above??" Her question is followed by a light laugh, "Must be nice to inherit such a gift from father."   She had always been slightly envious of the wings her brother has been blessed with and often wished she could have soared alongside father...
