Of all his children, he'd yearned for the connection with Fur. It was as though he'd found a kindred spirit in her, in the way she relied on the language of body and intuition rather than speech. He could go without speaking and be completely comfortable with it. And with her, he hadn't needed it to communicate. When so many others seemed blinded to the language, she'd been born into it.
Losing her had been hard. He had surely failed her as he had so many others. He wouldn't forgive himself for it.
His heart was thrilled even still when he caught her scent. That blue gaze sharpened and swiveled in the direction it had come, carried on a light breeze and filling him with the warmth of a homecoming. She had come home? Or perhaps not her home, but one she'd had for a time at least. That meant a lot to him just that she would even return to wander in this forest she used to know.
He followed the trail of her scent carefully until he was near enough. In his fear of frightening her, his innocently skittish baby, he prostrated himself, lowering his wolf-colored body to the ground to be as small as he could manage. He let out a cold sigh, not entirely disliking a little rest on the ground, but then propped himself up to wait for her.
"Fur," he called gently, letting his voice be what greeted her before she ran across his startling appearance. He hoped he would be able to ease any tension it may cause. He hoped to meet the little miniature that followed in her wake and not frighten either of them looking as near to a predator as he did.
