    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

how come I never got used to the feeling of sleeping in a cage?
too long driving, too damn hungry; a tied-up hound but nothing stays

Here, she can stretch her wings. Here, she can escape.

Valdis yearned for flight. She wanted the air to whip across her face and tousle her metallic locks, to mirror the wild ferocity that burned in her blood.

Oftentimes, she forgets the invigoration that blooms in her chest when she climbs altitude and peers down to see the scattered dots of horses beneath her shadow. It elicits a smug grin as she escapes the reaches of their influence, albeit temporarily as she swirls delicately among the clouds. Precipitation clings to her frost-kissed skin and gleams diamond-like in the sun. Alive, enthralled, Valdis nearly bypasses the meadow. A warm gale and a bird’s call reel her from her thoughts. A shake of her head lures her attention down below where the withering grass unravels. With a deep breath, she descends to take part in conversation outside of the autumnal forest that she has since called home.

There is much to be said about the male that grabs her attention, the way he stands out in a crowd without trying. Valdis eyes him curiously for a long moment after having descended, tucking her wings delicately to her sides. A glance to her left, then her right, confirms where her intrigue most strongly lies, and she obeys it with an enticed gleam in her eyes. She watches as fumes coil from his body, dancing away from him much like her father’s smoke – but this one isn’t a dragon. He is unique, but not so much as to be in her family’s draconic lines.

When she stops, it is with space between them. Instinctually, her thoughts drift to Sinner and wonder if he’d prefer her pent up in Sylva instead of reaching out to random men in the meadow. Shrugging decisively, she observes him another heartbeat before finally noting, ”I take it you’re not from around here.” A brow lifts underneath the sheen of her gilded forelock, a coy grin stretching across her soft lips as her eyes level on his. ”The name’s Valdis.”
