    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

she'll lie and steal and cheat and beg you from her knees
make you thinks she means it this time

Pyxis does not know all of her siblings—how could she? The one thing her parents had proven truly good at, besides finding ways to fall apart and then fall in love together again, is reproducing. She knows of her closest sisters (Malis’ wild smiles and Ilka’ dreamy eyes), but after the trio of them had been born, she had begun to lose track of her growing family. Was she to find out that she had a dozen siblings, her eyes would pop open and, depending on her mood, she would either curse or laugh. Of course she did.

Of course her parents had created such a large, sprawling family.

All of this to say, she has no way of knowing that the spotted, winged filly making her way across the volcanic island is her sister. She just knows that she sees a filly without any sort of adult supervision in sight—a little girl with a determined glint in her eye and in her step as she cuts across the vegetation.

Sighing, regretting the momentary flare of maternal instinct and blaming the twins for it, she picks up her pace, moving gracefully from a walk to a trot and then a leggy lope. When she finally nears the little girl, there is the barest hint of salt on her neck and the irritation flares in her. She does her best to keep it from her elegant face, instead dipping her antlered head down to the child and giving her a small smile.

“Are you having fun exploring Tephra?” She studies the child for a moment, feeling that familiar weight, the need to comfort and protect the little girl—the need to look after her. “My name is Pyxis.”

she'll tear a hole in you, the one you can't repair
but I still love her, I don't really care
