    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Chirp Chirp Chirp

Birds sang freely, almost mockingly, as they rejoice at winter’s hibernation. Their little bodies swooping, dancing, around each other in their excitement for warmer weather or, perhaps, their frolic is merely for pleasure out of just having the ability to stretch their wings and soar above. Taunting the land creatures below. Were birds even that intelligent? Intelligent enough to comprehend that some beasts wish for the flight that their jealousy for the fragile creatures simmer beneath; he couldn’t say. Every living creature has a thought process, some more intellectual than others and others that channel their more primal genius. As he stands there, watching the feathered bugs one so carelessly lands to the ground, tilting its head to look up at its much longer company. It seemed almost curious or it could just be the quick tilts of its head that make it appear so. Yet, he was a bit hopeful in thinking that maybe this little bird held a bright mind. Why? He didn’t really know. It’s possible that a corner of his heart aches for such a fragile living thing that could be broken with a quick flick of his hoof.

    Perhaps…

With a drawing, quiet, sigh his large cranium slowly lowered in a want to get a closer look at this flighty being that seemed to capture his interest all so suddenly. How long as he just been standing here, gazing peacefully at these winged animals? To him, it felt like an eternity and maybe it had been. Vivid blue connecting with the dark brown (Or was it black?) eyes of this tiny creature, it mildly surprised him to notice some genius shining through those dark orbs. That observation knocked at a piece of his heart, but he couldn’t quite place its feeling even though it felt familiar. It wasn’t joy, anger, nor was it love for this innocent being but more like that feel he got when his mother doted on his older brother or the many of times his father commended him. Jealousy. This feeling tugging at his heart was jealousy, but why? Maybe it was because this thing was free to roam where it please, rather it be the sky above or the ground below. That it was also able to comprehend, that it had a thought process yet it didn’t seem bothered or even hindered with emotions. He was jealous because it has everything he wishes for. Blue observed his jealousy as an older thought filtered through his brain in a loud whisper, fragile. Something he was not, his flesh and bone is much stronger, tougher, more forgiving; whereas the other was small, with brittle bones, and thin flesh. It wouldn’t be hard to just, bite it in half.

    Maybe…

Purposely, his nostrils flared with a loud snort to startle his newly found abhorrence. In a flap of blurry feathers and wild chirps, it flew back to its colony in a panic. Head raised with its motion; watching on with his newly found (again) jealousy that, once again, is plaguing his mind with its horrible toxin. In one more fleeting glimpse, large legs propelled its large body forward in a leisure walk; the owner in no hurry to tour the forest.

Ransome weaved around the trees of the forest, stepping over her fallen branches and crunching her floor of old dead leaves, imprinting his hoof mark into the soft dirt underneath. A couple brief in counters with the sun warmed up his chestnut pelt, making his body miss its warmth every time it shied away behind a cloud or fleeted to hide within the trees dense greenery. His decision to prance into the forests’ presence was being regretted now that he got a taste of the suns beams; he would much rather bask his body in the friendly rays. Alas, here he walks, adventuring deeper into the forest in a silent promise to find something worth interest or maybe even a clearing that the sun can reach; he didn’t keep his hopes up.
