    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

just a bit of a surprise.

Things have been weird since they arrived on this island. Daddy was sad, like in a deep dark way the two of them didn't understand. Mommy is different now. But in a good way! Then there's the Boneman. She seemed to like him, had even done the nasty with him. Yuck. Zoe still doesn't understand that fact. And Defy came out from it. So they have a brother now, too. So it seemed the girls would have to accept them both. But the man still creeps her out. Defy called him daddy. Mom and Dad called him Dovev. Zoe had decided she would call him Boneman. Or Bones. Ha, she liked that. Dad seemed to trust him, had let the man lead them to this place. They said this is an Island Resort and they'd be safe here. It was enough for Zoe, at least.

But Daddy said he'd needed rest, and Mommy went to find him. Defy seemed hell bent on not sharing Bones, and that was fine with them. So Zoe led Zyn off with her to check out the new place. They'd spent a good while laying low, in hiding while they waited for Dad to find them. She was tired of laying low. They said this is a safe place, so there isn't much reason she can think of not to go explore and maybe even play a little.

She nudges her twin's soft mousey colored neck, lipping at the border between the gray and white patches. Until now, she has kept Zynnie tucked under one of her ravenesque wings as usual. But as they make further away from the others, her spirits rise along with her wings. She flutters them lightly, making the black feathers rustle and whisper against each other as she bounds up into a trot. "Come on, Zynnie! Let's go check out the beach." Her lips broaden into a smile as she leads the way, wings floating along with her strides.

The tide is out at the moment, leaving some shallow pools visible for their observations. Zoe walks along from pool to pool, sniffing at the little creatures she could see. "Cool! Lookit that!" She remarks when she finds a starfish. She's never seen it before, and wonders how it moves around with no eyes she could make out. Her dark, glittering gaze dances up to her sister's face to see if she was as awed by it as she was. Zynnie has Dad's eyes. Rich brown with little purple specks set into a pretty head like Mom's. She is becoming shapely where Zoe is a bit leaner and more petite, her face a bit more angular. Her smile is warm at her sister before they resume their walk. Her gaze takes in the ripples of the ocean, the birds in the sky, the waves ebbing and flowing on the shore. And then the hoofprints on the sand. Still moist as though freshly made. Her ears perk up and her eyes brighten. "See that? Let's follow them." A little game of Detective Fillies.

It isn't long before they find the owner of the tracks, not far off ahead. She only pauses for a moment, looking to Zynnie to be sure she is okay going to meet them. She gives a little shrug and nods her head out at the pair, then advances toward them. One spots them in return, followed by the other after they collide, and then begin toward them as well. The second to notice pushes past the first, and Zoe's head tilts curiously, a small smile touching her lips that widens after they- no, she- shouts a greeting toward them and kicks up her pace. "Hi!" She shouts back.

The closer they get to each other, the more she can see the likeness between the two of them. Both red roan with white patches, even similarly marked. The filly precedes the colt, who carries wings like herself. Her grin widens and her gaze glitters in the sunlight at them when the girl comes to a sliding stop before them. She's pretty, standing there with her neck arched and head tilted, the smile charming on her lips.

Zoe can't help but move forward to meet her, her own neck arched and stretching her nose out to bump and breathe into hers. She can't help but be interested in meeting another set of twins not unlike her and Zynnie, although maybe a little younger.  "You look a little familiar too, but I would have remembered you both." She steps back to her own twin's side, offering her wing up and out for her, smile still softening her ebon lips. "I'm Dizorien, but I like to be called Zoe. And this is my twin sister, Zynistra." She would let her sister speak for herself some, in case she didn't want just anyone calling her by her nickname. She wouldn't mind having Zynnie all to herself and their family either.
