    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    do you ever wonder...
    ...do you ever dream?

Lips curve into a smile as his sire's footfalls are heard echoing in the vast, open ceiling. Velk found Loess' view of the sky to be one of it's most beautiful attributes. He certainly preferred looking into the wild blue yonder over looking at the underside of leaves. The black and white arches his neck playfully as Castile nudges and nips his withers. Ink-painted ears swivel to catch his father's warm hello before they finally face forward where his sire stands.

Velk hears his father's question though, he cannot quite find the words to express himself. Above all, he is disappointed in himself; disappointed because he fell for temptation. The disappointment also stems from the guilt he feels by not pursuing Mary after they fornicated or, after the subsequent birth. He not only gave into his impulses but, he did not take responsibility for his actions. His mothers certainly raised him better than that. Velk also feels betrayed and alone. Alas, he could not quite admit that all to his dad.

Luckily, Castile's second question is easier to answer. The black and white tovero begins to speak but, his words are choked back as Mary's all-too-familiar perfume floods his nares. Velk freezes. He did not inherit any dragon traits but, true to the nature of being sired by a dragon-shifter, Velk feels his very blood coursing hot through his veins. His heart pounds inside its cavity and, it takes all of his self-control to keep his breathing regular. His sapphire gaze grows dark and his previously pricked ears flatten to his poll.

It is no wonder that all of his bottled emotions present as anger now. Before Castile can acknowledge her, Velk rushes forward. He simply could not allow daddy to stand up for him. This is something he must do. He meant no disrespect on his father's land and, certainly Castile could take care himself but, the nerve of her to show her face! "How dare you show up here!" Velk spits. He had not the foggiest idea why she seems so nonchalant about being here. Truth be told, he did not care. Velk continues, his tone that of a hiss. "I cannot believe you fooled me and, now, strut about freely in my father's land. How dare you." He cannot be sure if she knew Castile to be his sire. He does not remember telling her before now though, perhaps, she picked it up from his cologne. Velk decides, that if Mary did know then, her being here is calculated and thus, even worse.

If he had talons, they would be digging into the soil, just waiting to lash out at her. If he had teeth, they would be bared and snapping at her. If he could breath fire, he would be warming up the flame at the back of his throat. As it were, the black-and-white possesses nothing more than his stocky equine body and, the ability to heal. So, instead, his ears remain pinned flat against his poll. His gaze, still an unusually stormy, navy hue, locks with hers. His nostrils are flared wide as hot breaths violently push out. Perhaps, at some point, he would back down. After all, she is the mother of his children. Child. Whatever. For now, his betrayed heart tells him to push her away.
