    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The way that she looks at him is somehow brighter than simply her smile. It’s the way he looks at a pink sunrise, or a perfectly ripe mango, as though he might have dreamed it and it would vanish if he blinks. But Blue has not intention of vanishing, and he reaches out to tap his blazed nose against Bean’s to remind her of this. He smiles as he does, and then laughs openly as she spins about to get a look at herself. Having broken any barrier that might exist, he whuffles gently against her nose when she reaches toward him, and sidles closer as though she might be a furnace after all. Bean iswarmer than the open air, but not as warm the Resort.

She agrees to come, and he grin, poking at her shoulder playfully just before he dances away.

“You will love it!” he assures her. “The ocean is always warm and there are the very best fruits. Have you ever had a pineapple? What about a papaya?” He continues to list his favorite fruits (it is a remarkably long list) as they set off, and finds that the warmth of their conversation and the steady trot that they set when they head west keeps him more than warm enough.

Not as warm as the Island Resort though, and when he stands at the edge of the mainland and looks out at it, he can already feel the heat of it. (Perhaps that is Tephra though, the volcano warming the black sand beneath their feet.)

“That’s it right there,” He tells Bean. “It’s low tide now, so we can wade over.”

They do so, and as he begins to ponder what she might want to see first, he spots a stranger. Blue shakes the water from his coat and wings before walking closer. There are beautiful pink and blue flowers twining through her mane and tail, and Blue tells her: “Those are beautiful. Do they grow there?” The woody vine suggests that they do, but he does not want to assume. Intrigued, he realizes that he has skipped introductions, and glances back at Bean with an apologetic smile.

“This is Bean,” he tells the mare with dragonfly wings, gesturing his new friend forward with an encouraging wave of his muzzle “and I am Blue. Welcome to Island Resort.”
