Old-fashioned was the word that sprang to her mind as soon as he opened his mouth. His speech seemed so rehearsed and out of place that she wondered for a moment if it was a ruse. Accompanied with the bow it seemed almost ridiculous, but the jade girl kept her mouth shut. He was the first person to approach her in months, and she wouldn’t be so quick to drive him away with her rather unpleasant company. However, she was at a loss on how to reply to him. The awkward moment stretches unbearably before the both of them, so long in fact that Astri grinds her teeth together in frustration before he breaks the void with an apology.
She exhales, gathering her patience and allowing for a trickle of pity to soften her otherwise stony expression. “You’re not the only one.” Maybe there was an obvious reason as to why she was alone. She didn’t exactly give off a pleasant vibe, and what she assumed was confidence others took as acidity. Her head nods softly and she chooses a rather open-ended couple of questions for the stallion to regain his feet on.
“So where are you from, Jacque? And what brought you out here?”
