    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

An icy wave brings Alanis to land, where the river and the ocean meet. She doesn’t remember entering the water but it is unforgiving when she exits it. The water clinging to her turns to ice crystals as she steps onto solid land - turquoise eyes scanning the area as her teeth begin to chatter.

It looks the same as all the others.

A deep inhale brings more cold air and no scents that set off any warning bells, she cannot pick up the sounds of anyone nearby. Predators might be welcome if she cannot warm up so she isn’t sure if not hearing one is a blessing or a curse. Shaking herself doesn’t get rid of the cold so she begins to move, slow careful steps up away from the ocean. Nothing about this place is familiar so she is sure she had not just washed up on the shore of her last home. Even though she hadn’t intended to leave it, there’s only the faintest sense of homesickness at the idea.

She wasn’t about to jump back into the ocean, after all. With no idea of which way to swim.

Her golden-tipped tail flicks irritably behind her as she walks, following the bank of the river for lack of anything else to do. Something, or someone, is bound to cross her path eventually and give her a new direction. Until then, she is simply focused on keeping her body moving. If she doesn’t, there’s a fear (rational or not) that she will freeze on the spot.
