    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    I don’t have a quote for now
It was night time. She lay curled up next to her indigo sister, who snores gently beside her. She cannot sleep. The noises in the forest have changed, from the pleasant chatter of bird song, to something she can’t quite place, something music-like and gentle in her ears. And every now and then there is a hooooooo noise. It’s a loud (but pleasant) chorus, and Arete is not used to it. She decides that she may as well put this time not-sleeping to good use.

She slips away without waking her sister (although most likely the spotted filly will wake soon enough and realise she is not there) and into the dark, cool night. Winter doesn’t seem to have had much effect on the toweringly tall gigantic trees, almost twice as long as her and goodness knows how high. Pillars of the sky, she muses, as she moves between them easily.

The moon is bright this evening, and she is enjoying herself, moving through the trees, climbing on roots and sticking her nose into plants. She wished that she had some company though – she flirts briefly with the idea of going back to fetch her sister, but decides that she doesn’t want to risk waking all of her family up.

A wolf howls in the distance, and Arete freezes at the unfamiliar sound. It was different to the soft cooing she had heard earlier. This is loud, and harsh, and unafraid. And, unbeknownst to her, a thick fog has begun to roll in off the sea. She holds herself tight to the trunk of one of the trees, and hopes someone comes soon.

    Jinju
Ever since ‘the change’ she has been haunted in her sleep. Sometimes she dreams of pleasant memories, which cause tears in her eyes when she awakes again. Lexa is gone, her mother – or adoptive mother actually – isn’t here. However, most of the times her dreams are dark, nightmare like. She sees the fire burning on the mountain. She runs and runs, trying to flee, but the harder she tries to run away from it, the closer it gets. The fire is all around her, it consumes her, burning and branding her.

Jinju bolts up, gasping for breath. Almost instantly she’s shivering again, not able to keep herself warm in the cold environment that the Taiga provided. It was her new homeland, but it had yet to become home. Right now the black filly still longed for the Jungle and her heath. She moves away from the spot she had been sleeping, hoping that moving would help her get warmer. It doesn’t long before the black girl finds a set of hoof prints, small ones, that lead away from the general area where they all rested and moved further into the forest. Curiously she starts to follow them, her hooves in crackling the snow underneath her hooves.

Her coal form is almost unnoticeable in the dark night and the fog that slowly started to roll up didn’t make it any easier. Her red eyes, however, sometimes glimmer in the limited light that shines in the darkness of the pine tree forest. Jinju had found the cause of the hoof prints and she’s eager to approach the yellow and black girl, unaware of how spooky she might looks. A smile pulls on the corners of her lips and Jinju is about to happily greet the other filly, when the howl sounds. Both surprised and scared by the sudden sound she jerks forward, panic clearly evident in her eyes as she bolts to Arete’s side. ”Wh- What was that?” Her voice is trembling while her eyes search for the other child’s orbs. Even though they hadn’t officially met, she had seen the yellow girl around before, although normally accompanied by her indigo sister.

    Alivia
I believe the night I’ve never met hides one elusive star I need
Alivia had a habit of snoring...as well as reaching for her other half in her sleep, feeling for the security of Arete's warmth and the soft fluff that encompassed their forms. Liv does not feel Arete slip away as she is curled up with her back touching her sister's. She does not hear the soft crunch of hooves but what does wake her is when the blue filly stretched in her slumber to roll over on the other girl. Limbs hit the bare ground where they should have been propped upon on her twin and this wakes the indigo girl with a surprise. Where's Ret? Liv was moving to her feet without a further thought, frantic as her senses buzzed awake. Blue eyes are searching as she stands stock still except for the small ears, listening. "Ret?" Her voice is a harsh whisper as she knows Momma would scold them both for wandering off at night.

When she feels like she can wait no longer, the thin limbs move the girl towards the direction of Arete's last smell. It is as she walks that the night creatures, the boogeymen, who steal little boys and girls who should be in bed to make them slaves or eat them begin to manifest in her head! "Ret? Arete?" Her little voice grew but not by much. Alivia shook with fright as she did not like being without her sister or alone in the dead of night (mostly her sister though because they could always go exploring together at night). But it is the howl that spurs the girl. Liv wastes absolutely -no- time hauling butt. Spindly legs are moving the small form blindly though the woods as she fights her fears, biting back screaming bloody murder.

Call it instinct or a twin connection but in a matter of moments, Liv is crashing against her twin (barely missing Jinju). In a heave of breath, her small heart fluttering with surprise- "Ret Ret!" The small indigo child wraps herself around her sister before jumping to her feet. "No! No go without Liv ever again, Ret Ret. You scared me!" Alivia scolds her sister, in a rather Momma fashion, before noticing the other girl. "Oh hello." Liv gives her a smile (completely forgetting their situation) till another howl causes her to shrink against the night and gaze around, perplexed as to find their way home. Pale blue eyes look to the dark filly. "Do you know the way home?" It was a silly question as the girls are clearly lost.

    Glowing red eyes.

For a moment Arete wondered whether this would be her last moment, pressed against the bark of an old, tall tree, not even a year old. And without her sister… it was unimaginable. But, as the eyes come closer, she realises its just another filly, one she had seen hanging around the group although they had never spoken. She does, however, look as scared as Ret feels.

”Howly beasts.” she responds, her own amber eyes wide. She doesn’t notice her indigo sister bursting through the mist and bowling right into her. The yellow filly gives a small ‘oof’ at the collision, falling to the ground but quickly regaining her footing.

”Never never never again, Livvy.” she says solemnly, nodding her head. In truth, she would have rather woken her sister than go out alone, but the indigo girl was curled up so tightly to their parents that she hadn’t dared.

Her eyes narrow at her twin’s next question. She looks to Jinju then, wondering if she had the answer, although knowing that she doesn’t. She shakes her head.

”Let’s go this way and find the stream.” she suggests. ”Howly beasts don’t like the water.”

”Howly beasts?” she repeats, unfamiliar with the beasts the yellow and black girl was referring too. But she wasn’t given any time to ask further. The indigo one – the one Jinju had seen around the black and yellow one – misses her on a few strands of hair and crashes into her twin sister. Surprised by the sudden appearance of the girl Jinju stumbles a few steps back, gasping for breath and only barely able to hold down the scream that lied upon the tip of her tongue.

She watches the sisters, head tilting a bit to the side, studying their exchange closely. Jinju never had a sister, or even friend of her age to hang out with. Until tonight she had also only watched the twin sisters from afar. It is only when the indigo one turns to her that she realises how she had been staring at them, casting her gaze down Jinju can feel her cheeks fluster, although hidden by her dark coat. ”Uh, hi..” she mumbles, suddenly shy underneath the indigo’s sharp gaze.

It is the yellow one that saves her. It had only been a few days ago since Reagan had taken her to the Taiga, so naturally she didn’t know how to get back. Or, they probably could follow their hoof steps back, since the snow showed them their previous paths, but at the same time you never knew when it would start snowing again or what had erased their steps. Jinju nods, agreeing with the yellow girl’s proposal to find water, especially after she explains that the howly beasts wouldn’t follow them there. How the girl would know that is a mystery to the black filly, but she believed her without questioning it. ”Do you know where we can find water?” she asks, still amazed by the yellow and black girl’s knowledge.

It was nightfall, they claimed a land and all was perfect. Romek and Maribel gave birth to two beautiful fillies, it was slightly annoying, he loved Maribel so much that surely his blood foals would take priority. He shrugged it off, he was almost two and shouldn’t nee his father to comfort him, heck he should be out defending the territory.

It was these thoughts that kept him up, although it was long before he saw one of the twins, Arete go off, wondering he supposes. It was odd that she was alone, and it was to late at night for such a helpless filly to travel alone, he rolled his eyes and nudged his sister Espeon who was sleeping awake. He did not speak, just gesture his head towards the filly who was wandering and followed behind her. He was far enough away that she couldn’t detect them, but close enough to ensure her safety.

His eyes grew curious to another filly, he couldn’t recall her name, although she was surely a member of Taiga. She approached Arete, and they shared a greeting but it was quickly shattered when a wolf howl echoed. His ears pinned and he gave away his hiding, he bolted towards the two fillies standing before them, looking around as if a gang of wolves were about to appear. He hears movement and pin points the spot, but what comes out is not a wolf, not it is Alivia. He rolls his eyes, another filly to look out for. She came tumbling over, scolding Arete for running off, asking for the way home. All Arete could manage to say was lets find water, wolves don’t go there what gave you that idea? Wolves like to drink just as much as we do he snorted, annoyed that this was interrupting his sleep schedule. We can go to the water if you are all thirsty, but we should be heading back home. his voice was stern but his eyes were gentle, he remembers the days when all Espeon wanted to do was adventure out away from Romek.

She Decided To Start Living The Life She Wanted

She was sleeping peacefully before being rudely awoken by Durotan, she really wanted to reach out and bite him but he gestured towards the right were she could spot Arete running off. She gave a snort, hoisting herself off the ground and shaking her sleeping limbs awake. what is she doing she spoke slightly annoyed, but was intrigued by the fillies adventure.

It wasn’t long before her and Durotan were following the filly, far enough from detection but close enough to protect. Shortly after Arete stopped and a black filly appeared, she was puzzled by the appearance and she looked off at the howl of a wolf. The two fillies were visibly shaken and Durotan broke from his hiding spot, of course to a protective stance. Hey she snorted trailing after him. He gave no greeting just stood before the fillies; the next to appear was Alivia, she scolded Arete which was actually funny. Espeon was similar to Arete and Alivia was similar to Durotan, the more protective twin, while Arete was bound to get in trouble creating adventures of her own.

Arete mentioned finding water and Durotan snapped at her Hey! She doesn’t know any better Espeon quickly defended the filly, her brother was too serious and wasn’t good at taking age in. The fillies all agreed to find water and Durotan grew more gentle, agreeing to bring them to water but insisting they head home. She looked down to the fillies curious to their decision, she smiled wondering if the adventure would continue or end.
