    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Sun walked his way down the field finding a sheltered spot beyond the questioning gaze of the other horses and the endless list of questions. He stood gazing quietly the golden sun warming his golden coloured back, the stark contrast of his dark mane against his coat, which had given him his name, helped him to blend in with the dappled light in the shelter of the trees near the edge of one of the fields. He raised his head sharply as a cry pierced the air but it was only the distant call of another horse. His golden eyes watched the other horses graze; some talked others kept to themselves.  Suddenly span only to see a bird fly out of the tree idiot he thought to himself it was only a bird I need to calm down like he said to himself every time he got scared over silly things. He brought his head back down to the grass biting of a mouthful, its juicy taste filling his mouth…

As sunset approached the sky got darker, he moved uneasily in the shadows of the tree. It was obvious he longed for the protection of other horses but his trust issues kept him away. As night fell he gave in, ancient instincts driving him to the company of the other horses. He walked cautiously to where the other horses grazed in quiet company…

As darkess approached she awoke from her drifting.  Day dreams but that... Dreams.  Her globes scanned the terrian.  The starry sky all the light she needed to take in the sights.  Amany equines huddled together in groups... Some laid others stood.  She never understood the need for family groups as such.  She was content on her own.  She stepped from the shadows of the trees that shaded her from the faded daylight.  Globes took in the sights as nares filled with the crisp air of night... Awww... She raised her crown and looked to the star filled skies.  A magical sight indeed.  Satellites flickered to an uneasy rustling near... A golden figure stood uneasy in the night.  Begging for comfort of his fellow equines.  Confusion painted her face... The night was full of wonder.  Could he not see this?

Sun saw a second grulla filly in his wait for the mare to reply, he watched her look to the star filled skies and the horses all down the valley of fields. She seemed content and watched him, he tur d his head to look at her and realized she held a sense of content by herself. Something he had lost after many years alone, his need for solitude had passed over for his need for company. Don't let yourself to be fooled, he told himself, you can't fall for that trap again.
He watched and waited for dawn, more confused about what to do next than ever before.
