    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

the walls kept tumbling down in the city that we love
great clouds rolling over the hills
and if you close your eyes, does it almost feel
    like nothing's changed at all?

In theory, he understands. As a people they were jealous, and greedy, and the fae took everything from them because of that. Because they kept fighting, and they were ungrateful, and whatever else. But he can’t help but resent them – to feel that not all of them were that bad. He’d protected his own, yes, with everything at his disposal, but he hadn’t cause harm to others just for the fun of it. And he feels naked, exposed. He’s been immortal with wings since the day he was born, and had his other powers since the tender ages of three and four, respectively…and he’s over 60 years old. Now he is stripped to nearly nothing – and the last power left to him is the one he likes the least; his extraordinarily long life.

He vacillates between depressed and furious. He has plenty of time to do that, even now. There’s no Tundra, after all, not even the Falls to look after. Brennen’s family is scattered to the winds, well except a few who were with him at the time of the Reckoning, and his beloved Kingdoms are gone. He is lost. It’s not a new feeling, exactly, but it is one he had thought to have gotten rid of. The lost orphan foal was not someone he had embraced in a very long time, not after finding Texas and the Tundra. But yet, here he is. A full grown stallion, and just as lost.
