    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Where her first experience of the world had been rather pleasant, it had been incredibly bright after. The haze was no longer there, no longer a pleasant feeling that oozed through her body, that kept her warm and content. It was almost like it had been dulled back then, making the world around her so much sharper now. Kylin had liked the dulled, hazy world better than this one. Everything was so loud, bright, just a bit too much of everything. She didn’t like it.

But that didn’t stop her from exploring that bright world. Not alone. No, Kylin would never venture out alone. The world didn’t scare her, but that annoyingly bright world was suddenly so.. so dull without a particular someone at her side. But really. Everything compared to him was dull, lifeless. Perhaps you could say he was her personal drug, her own haze, and she couldn’t imagine the world without him. Nor her life actually.

Today’s exploring had let them to the water, or the sandbar that lead away from the isle to be more precise. The lavender and white girl had been lured towards the water ever since she had lied her eyes upon it, but none of the adults had allowed it. Dangerous they said. Unpredictable too. Yet it would only be so long that they would listen. Today marked the day they didn’t’. Kylin was unaware of the eyes that might were watching them closely.

Her hazel eyes only looking at her older brother, that was if she didn’t look at the blue water that rolled onto the sand, only to be pulled back after. She didn’t get tired of watching it, curiously studying the strange phenomena, also not noticing how the waves seemed to reach higher and higher. Because that was only fun, right? Jumping away before it reached her hooves.

I'm just an angel that's fallen from grace

He studied her as she watched the waves. He took in every detail, every little swirl of white in her lavender coat. They were both so beautiful, weren't they? The pair of them. He had more purple, and she had more pearly white, but so beautiful. He had wings and she didn't. But he loved that. Loved that he could trail his gaze over the naked sides of her where wings weren't in the way. Their parents were both so beautiful too, though mother in her own mousey-brown way. A perfect family. Sort of.

Ah, but the waves were coming in and slowly growing bigger with the rising tide. He stepped up to her side to stare down too, wings flexed loosely behind and above him. He didn't care that no one was near to watch them, he could take care of them himself. He'd never had reason to, but he was sure he could if anything happened. He dropped a wing over her and pulled her close, hugged her briefly before raising his wing again.

Do you want to go in? he asked, turning a small smile to her.

He glanced behind them and around, scanning for any watchful guardians. No mother, no father, no Reilly. Although, Reilly was sort of like a father too. But none were near today; none had seen them sneak off to play by the water. They could do whatever they wanted to. Whatever she wanted to.

C'mon. We can go in together, he offered with a mischievous twinkle in his eye.
