    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

dreamer, every time you stargaze the whole world is lying at your feet

Her father had left her to her own devices, much to her delight. The small tiger cub found that she could fit through small gaps that her father never could. The native animals of Taiga didn’t seem to mind her as much, either, there was no weird, hushed silence wherever she went… Instead, birds chattered to each other readily and she could hear the rustling of small animals, could smell them all around too.

She frowned as she picked up a peculiar scent, alien to her nostrils. She had smelt it only a couple of times before, and her father had always directed her away from it but… he wasn’t here to do that this time. Far too curious for her own good, she followed it with relative ease – whatever this animal was, it was not concerned with covering its own tracks. She came across foul-smelling dung, heavy footfalls, bent brush – this animal didn’t care who found it, it would seem. That thought set the small cub’s fur on end, but not enough that she decided to stop tracking the creature.

The scent leads her to a large cave, set in a rocky outcrop, and Anastazja hesitates at the mouth of it, her nose filled with that strong scent. This was the creature’s den, clearly, and the cub settled down just outside it to see what would emerge.

An unfamiliar scent tickles his nose, and accordingly the rest of him, into wakening, and Siberian lifts his head up off from where it had rested upon his paws.  Facing the entrance of the cave that his half-ursine instincts couldn't help but prompt him to seek out and claim once he had settled fully into Taiga with Reagan, the transformed stallion blinks against the outside light.  He hears rustling outside, and smiles to himself.  Apparently, he had a visitor.  With a sleepy groan, the Budyonny rises, stretches, and heads towards the cave opening.  He marvels to himself, as he probably would forever after having lost and partially regained the most precious sense of all, at the landscape that lay before him.

There was beauty in everything his eyes took in, from the sky above to the tiniest blade of grass beneath his feet....and also in the little tiger cub that was camped outside his door.  Well, this was an unexpected sight.  He hadn't gotten to know anyone in Taiga very well yet, and to have another shapeshifter, no matter how young, come calling was a surprise.  At least it wasn't Ruan, come to plague him with a frozen-over cave or fishing stream again.  The other stallion still disliked him, which troubled Siberian.  Ruan was apparently now the sole ruler of Taiga....would he decide to cast Siberian out?  A very troublesome thought indeed, but he doubts that news of such a decision would come from the little cub curled up outside his cave.  He smiles at the orange-and-black feline, trying to seem as nonthreatening as an enormous male grizzly bear could manage.  "Hello there, welcome to my little patch of Taiga.  What's your name?  I'm Siberian.  "
