    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

if there's a light at the end, it's just the sun in your eyes

Amet's own excitement to see Tangerine is quelled by the long, low nicker that reverberates from the blue-pointed stallion beside him. His amber eyes move from the painted mare and his narrow head turns to get a better look at Warrick, who has all but forgotten about Amet's presence. The dragon king's mouth twists into a knowing grin, having been victim to Tang's charms ever since the first time she had wandered her way into his home, but the grin is paired with a sour taste in his mouth and Amet does his damnedest to shove that feeling deep within himself.

You will do yourself no favors, his mind whispers to him, if you try to get between them.

Surely the older Warrick has more experience in the art of wooing mares, and Amet falters for a moment, but he plants that smile on his gilded face the best he can and turns his gaze back to the ecstatic Tangerine. She returns his affections without hesitation, an act that quiets his newfound uncertainty for the briefest of moments, and then she is moving onto greet the Tephran stallion.

The golden Akhal-Teke turns his head from the pair to afford them a small amount of privacy, the scales on his neck and shoulders gleaming with his movement. He shifts his weight almost awkwardly before the pair separates and Warrick is joking to dispel any uncomfortabilities. Amet turns his amber eyes back to the stallion and chuckles warmly, giving a nod in affirmation. "Yes, she keeps me on my toes," he offers, but the words are nearly lost as Molotov emerges from the clearing, her voice ringing in his head.

His gaze moves quickly to the flamed-kissed telepath, maw falling open to greet her but it seems that she is already on a roll. The dragon king is used to having her voice in his head, but it's the content that catches him off guard today.

"Ah, well, Molotov..." in an attempt to intercede, but it does no good and Amet is stuck with a desire to glance over at Warrick, to see how the other stallion is faring with this information, but he keeps his eyes glued to Molotov even as she nudges warmly at his bronze hip. "Thank you so much for this," he whispers in her ear, embarrassed and amused, before turning his gaze back to Tang, who seems to be handling the situation very well. "Leave it to you, warrior queen, to already have a trail of suitors in your wake."

He suddenly begins to question everything (like he so often does), wondering if perhaps he had made a mistake in coming to Hyaline. A sense of guilt begins to wash over him, feeling incredibly selfish to have come here and seen her, to stir up uncertain feelings and confusion between the two of them, and now having the young Amet thrown in the midst. Warrick snorts sharply, ears flicking backwards passively as the stranger’s thoughts ring out in his mind. It was embarrassing, mostly so because Warrick hadn’t even been able to sort through all his thoughts himself, and now a complete stranger was able to decipher them for him.

Of course, Warrick isn’t sure if the invasion of his mind had also been given to the others, but judging by the satisfied smirk on the mare’s face, the bay stallion knew that his thoughts were now public, just as their thoughts were now his. His burning cerulean stare lingers on the mind reader, frustration seeping through his core.

Amet is amused by the situation, and Tang is as well. Unfortunately, Molotov’s cunning mind trick strikes a chord within the bay stallion, and his demeanor immediately changes. The idea of Tang leaving to find bigger and better things had tormented him since her departure from Tephra, now comes to fruition. Inwardly, he is reeling with the realization that his fears are solidified – Tang would, and should, remain in Hyaline with the young stallion who is not so easily broken by insecurities. Hyaline suits her better – she can grow here.

He will not keep her from that.

“Thank you for your hospitality, Amet.” He is able to find his voice and he is almost surprised that it is not quivering. He is speaking so formally now and he knows it is noticeable. “There is a new leadership in Tephra and I must return to the king, Tang.” He says her name, but his eyes do not find hers as quickly as they normally would. “Until we meet again,” he finishes quietly as he gives a nod to each of them, a sense of defeat in the normally bright blue of his eyes, before he brushes past them with purposeful steps to begin his long journey home.

I'm gonna set this world on fire
She had always lavished in knowing others deepest secrets.  The thoughts that they clung to hoping they would never surface.  Hell, it was the very reason she breathed! Encroaching upon their little get together unwelcomed was the icing on the cake...

She had spared each the juicy details, those she kept for her own muse.  A snickered escaped her ruby lips.  Never using actual words.  Looking to the pied mare fairing well in her wake.  The info fed to her tranquil mind didn't seem to take her by surprise in the least.  They may have gotten along in other circumstances.  Her auburn admirer on the other hand seemed to die a little on the inside.  His thoughts of happiness shattered as he was exposed.  Quick to walk away as he excused himself she reassured him, and him alone, you have nothing to worry about Warrick.  She is overjoyed you have come. A grin pulls at her lips, hinting to the others she had shared a secret.  Don't worry... I've kept Amet busy. A wink shot the navy dipped stallions way before he turned...

Amet, would you care for a swim? Her ruby lips brushing across his scaled shoulder. Clearly these two have some catching up to do...As do we.  Sharing these thoughts to the group, a half sided smirk pulled across her tainted lips.

    face to the sun

Tang's smile fades when Warrick speaks, and she realizes somehow, she has miss-stepped.

Confused, she looks to Amet. He seems to know this strange filly, but Tang’s embarrassment flairs when he calls her warrior queen, she looks away. The reference to a playful conversation they had in the spring feels out of place in the current company.

Quite suddenly the reunion is over.

Warrick is leaving, Molotov’s revelation must have been something Warrick did not want to share, even though he nearly said those things out loud with the way he touched her. But Tangerine had given more weight to his words than his body language from the start. But now he is gone, half way down the mountain, and she will not part with him this way.

Before she can turn, the flame kissed mare smirks at her, seeming to taunt Tang as she mouths Amet’s golden shoulder. All at once, Tang does not like the tall girl anymore. Molotov is treating Amet like a toy to be played with and possessed. But he seems glad to have the telepath near, so it wasn’t her place to make a remark. Amet was a man grown and could make his own decisions.

She fells frustration beginning to bubble in her chest.

A few hours ago, she had everything. Now she hopes she hasn’t lost them both.
    Maybe she was selfish.

Hesitantly, she takes a step back from the girl and her prize, searching his face like she has done so often. “I… need to go.” She says quietly, even though it’s obvious as she turns her back to them and leaves in the direction of the River.
