    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Life Is Tough; So Are We

What Siba didn't know wouldn't hurt her, especially since the filly had gone off on her own recently. Nitika had been very out of it the last couple of weeks, even more so than after Nymphetamine returned to the Tephra. The paint mare had been eager to accept his invitation, if anything to have a home moreso than be around the blood-bay stallion she still held feelings for. Even if Kimber was still around nowadays, Nitika couldn't deny she cared for Nymphetamine. And she knew Siba did too, even if the mare was not so eager to admit it.

She had suspicions that Siba blamed Nymphetamine for Nitika's state, why she'd been left a blank slate of her former self for so long. In truth, Nitika still had a mind for what was going on, she just didn't want to be involved in a lot. Nymphetamine hadn't held her entire heart; Siba was there too of course, along with Nitika's friends. But the blood-bay stallion weighed heavily on her, and she did wish she could see him again.

Even if it was only for a brief while, and that was what she was doing right now. After Siba went off to have some time alone, Nitika decided she'd take over on this for now. The younger mare didn't want to admit it, but Nitika could see how fatigued her daughter had become. She was pretty sure that if Siba had decided to stay behind in the small enclosure of trees they'd last seen each other in, the mare would've passed out on the ground right then.

At least she was out and about, able to take care of herself. Nitika worried for her daughter, but she trusted the younger mare. She was a capable one and could deal with whatever challenge came her way.

Nitika only hoped the same could be true for her, since she was still somewhat of a vegetable.

Having last seen her daughter two days ago, the mare finally reached her destination. She looked out at the expanse of the Tephra kingdom, her eyes immediately drawn to its most impressive feature: the large volcanic mountain sitting calmly off in the distance, steam billowing out of the top and casting a layer of humidity over the place. Even though Nitika wasn't officially inside Tephra's border yet, she could still feel it from here; her coat was already beginning to dampen.

The grass she was standing in came up to about her pasterns, the lush green feed stretching out in front of her for miles. Dotting the landscape were rivers winding around like snakes, something the mare did not really enjoy. Instead, she tried to focus on the greenery, to see if she could spot any of the kingdom's residents within her current view.

Immediately, she didn't see anything, so it meant that the residents were probably out attending to their own duties, or just lurking within another part of the kingdom's land. So, that left one option. Somewhat worried that a certain blood-bay stallion would answer the call, Nitika tilted her muzzle up and let out a loud whinny, asking for any of the residents to come to the border and see what her business was here.

Even if Siba wouldn't approve of this, of going to the kingdom where her sire was, the stallion that, in Siba's opinion, hurt Nitika, the mare wouldn't let her daughter's own personal beliefs ruin their chances of finding a home. So, after letting out her call, she stood there and waited, occasionally lowering her head to take a bite of grass since she'd forsaken eating for the majority of her journey here.
