Thorunn never thought of the water as something more than an impenetrable force, something that you drank but kept your distance from - ultimately. The Valley lacked more than a stream that trickled, and Tephra was a volcano. Not really lands of the sea, not really a place for a young girl to imagine dipping her toes into.
