    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    however small, however hidden.

"MoooooOOOOOOooooOOOOOOoooommmmmm!" Smoak calls obnoxiously (and unapologetically) as he searches for Ellyse along the northern shoreline of Tephra at the very tip of their home. His hazel eyes drink in the roiling waves that kiss the horizon far into the distance as he yells into the wind, as if she can hear him at any time, from anywhere. He has grown more independent over the last month or two, having come to the realization that there is much to see in Tephra that can keep him entertained while Mom concentrates on her important job of training the Army and Dad visits other territories, but the young boy has also grown to love her company more now that he is interested in learning and growing and helping in their volcanic home.

In an attempt to keep himself entertained while he waits, the champagne colt leaps from unsteady boulder to unsteady boulder, trying his best to keep his small hooves planted on the wet, salty surfaces as he lands. He occasionally slips and his knees collide with the rocks time and time again, but the young Smoak finds that the entertainment outweighs the discomfort, and so he continues with the thought that his bone-armored joints can sustain just about anything.

And when he grows bored (which, inevitably, he will), Smoak turns to the sea grasses that sway and billow just beyond the wet shoreline, where the beach turns into the gradual base of the volcano. He nibbles tenderly, hesitantly, at the grasses and is pleased to find that their the perfect combination of sweet and salty. The strands hang from the corners of his mouth just as Ellyse comes into view, and Smoak gives her a playful, grass-filled smile.

"Mom! I think this is the best place for grass, right out here by the ocean," he pauses, his ears fluttering towards her, "It's still weird to eat instead of drink, though."
