    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Nighttime on the island was one of Kali’s favorite things. Of course she had many favorite things, but Ischia’s beautiful water was pretty high on her list. Even after a year and a half, she still loved to watch the waves rolling in, licking the shore and glowing that soft ethereal blue everywhere the water and the beach met, everywhere she stepped, everywhere fish and shrimp and other wee aquatic beasties moved fast enough to disturb the water.

Usually on a night like this, she could be found frolicking across the waves, dancing and leaving a trail of sparkling fairy dust water in her wake. Tonight though, she just stood with her feet in the sand, watching the water wash up and around her and retreat back into the ocean, luminescent and beautiful. And when that wasn’t quite enough to soothe the restless ache in her chest, she walked into the water until it was halfway up to her knees, and then slowly lowered herself down onto the sand.

Waves washed around her and up onto her body, the bigger ones even washing all the way over her back. And everywhere the water touched her, that soft blue glow lit it like magic, glittering and shimmering and easing something inside her that she couldn’t name, didn’t have words to express even to herself. She closed her eyes and let the light surround her, while she just breathed in the salty sea air and listened to the rush of the waves and the whisper of the cool night breeze.

This right here, this was paradise.

Like a flower waiting to bloom.
A pair of hazelbrown eyes are watching the grullo, lavender and white girl on the beach. Ischia was beautiful, and their little paradise looked stunning in the moonlight. Sleep hadn’t come to her and that her little sister was missing had been the perfect excuse for Kylin to leave the den their family slept.

Not that she had to worry about Kali’s wellbeing. Ischia was theirs, their paradise for family and friends. Father would make sure nothing would happen to them here. And on top of that, her baby sister wasn’t so little anymore. Kali rivalled her own height now and she too started to fill out in all the right places. They probably could pass through for twins, well, unless Kharon came around. But, with Kharon more and more away, her side felt cold, empty. It made her restless and Kylin didn’t like it. Even now she could feel the ache in her chest.

”Kali” she spoke softly, voice barely more than a whisper. Not because she was afraid of startling her younger sibling, but because she was afraid to break the peaceful silence under the moonlight. Kylin was pretty sure that her sister would’ve noticed her coming, if not by scent, then by sound. She stopped beside Kali, nose dipping to nuzzle her wither’s for a short moment. ”Can’t sleep?” she asks, voice still soft.

It would be nice to get distraction from the thoughts that kept her awake. On top of that her baby sister’s wellbeing was important to her. Perhaps she wasn’t as close to Kali as Kharon was, Kylin knew her twin adored their little sister, but that didn’t mean they were strangers to one another. They were family.
