    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    It's Quiet Uptown [Any]

Often the thought crossed her mind that perhaps she was to blame for her lack of happiness.  That she sabotaged her life.  Creating the dark cloud that lingered above her by her poor choices.  Running from those like her into the arms of the ones who caused her misery.  Self inflicted turmoil.

She seems a mirror image in the depths of his eyes as he searches for an explanation.  The words he finds ring true in her ears and yet she wonders why, why can't they just be happy.  Her head nods in agreement as she watches the pain stifled stallion speak of his own life.  Riddled of struggles.  She realizes how much they have in common as her thoughts travel to her past, before Beqanna.  Before the gown, before fairies, before any sort of happiness existed.

Golden flecked navy eyes fell in realization.  She was back to square one again.  No home, no friends, no family.  He has confirmed her worst fear, nothing was wrong with her.  And still everything was wrong.  How does one begin to fix something that isn't wrong?

She begins to speak softly, her eyes still lowered, "Don't abandon your home Rou.  You are lucky to have found one.  Your son was blessed to have had you, for however brief.  To be loved unconditionally.  You have something I can only dream to have one day." She smiles at him, eyes lifting, even though her heart is breaking inside her chest.  She was happy to have met him.  Her nape twists slightly as she looks into the darkness of the Forest.  A chill creeps up her spine as her legs shift, turning her slightly away from him.  "I better start looking again," she says with only slight hope.  Her emerald gown shifts slightly as she had turned, revealing grey scarred flesh behind her shoulder...

    Her pain does not fade.

He didn't think it probable that his words would make her feel whole once again, but he had naively hoped that maybe it would. Her eyes fell as she turned from him, a sign she was ready to leave. The wind shifted her wings slightly as she changed her direction, revealing the scarring upon her shoulder. Diable Rouge feels as though he cannot move, his eyes burning into the long, puckered pink cicatrices lining her body. He thinks about his own scars, long-since faded from his encounter with his father, but his most noticeable one a deep slash upon his temple; it had never faded like the others.

He finds himself move closer to her, nearly touching her. His mother's compassion courses through his veins - a rough exterior fading into a soft interior. He never learned to turn a cold shoulder, no matter how many times he had been hurt.

"Come with me." The words he finds are simple, but it is truly what he wants, for her to come back to Tephra with him. His two-toned eyes bore into hers, pleading with them to follow. Too often in his life he has found himself alone, his only family murdered, no friends. Kaiode's tragic death had left him lonely yet again. The look in her golden-flecked eyes tells him she's seen the same fate, that they share similar stories. He couldn't let her leave. "You don't have to be alone, Aurora."
in the eye of a hurricane, there is quiet.

The distant gaze of her eyes is tangled within the sea of shadows cast by the tight confines of the canopy above.  Her thoughts mangled there as well.  Suffocated by the weight of dread that awaits her next step... Then a plea is caught in the hollows of her ears.  Her delicately dished profile turns to face the rust stallion again.  His eyes, deep and ever so soft, are begging her to consider.  Her own eyes matching his in intensity.  Could he really wish her to join him?  That she could have a home and all she ever wanted?

"Really?!" A slight pause of doubt crossed her thoughts.  His eyes did not stray, but remained focused on hers.  The sincerity of his voice convinced her he was serious so she nodded in agreement.  "Ok Rou, I'll come with you," she smiled happily.  For the first time in coming to Beqanna she had a place to call home, Teph....ra... Her mind sputters for a moment as she realizes what she has just agreed to.  That the kingdom who had not welcomed her was where they would be headed.  The happy smile turned into an unsure grin, eyes a-lit dim slightly but not enough to concern Rou.  She wasn't about to ruin the moment with the past.  Perhaps the black stallion wouldn't recognize her... Oh yeah like there is a million horses with peacock feather gowns Aurora! Idiot
