    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

all that we have amassed sits before us, shattered into ash
This was not supposed to happen.

She had gone to him because she recognized him as a friend, someone who was a constant companion to her though they'd only spoken a handful of times over the years. He was someone who endured, someone who survived, someone who made it through the darkness with her. They were the only ones left, of the group who had survived Carnage's torture, and as it turns out, he had survived the Dark God not once, but twice now. The mark across his eye and the X upon his chest testified to how resilient the man was, and something about him had drawn her in.

He was broken, lonely, so much like her that it hurt. They even looked alike to a certain point, with gleaming copper coats, yellow manes, and melancholy expressions that bespoke horrors. They were kindred spirits and though he was no Flamevein, he had managed to carve out a piece of her anyways. She cares for him, worries for him—certainly, she has comforted him. She doesn't know what love is anymore—Flamevein had stripped that from her as brutally as his disappearance—but Ledger matters to her, and the mere thought of it scares her.

When she first feels the quickening in her womb, she panics. She has not borne a child since Rhaenyra so many years ago, and not long after that the girl's father had vanished into nothing, leaving behind not even a scent behind. It had been like Flamevein was never even there, and he has never met his daughter—not his only daughter, of course, but the daughter that mattered. The child borne of love instead of lust (though lust had certainly been involved, for once Cress had hungered for his burning touch), and he had never even known the vibrant, sassy child. She resents him for that.

She doesn't know what type of father Ledger with be, or if he'll even be a father indeed. Does he have children of his own, with a lover, living in a beautiful kingdom? She isn't sure, but she doesn't think so. If he had children, he would be more alive; if he had a lover, he never would have taken her on that day in the meadow. Perhaps he has been scorned by love as she was, and only looking for a companion.

But for the child's sake, she hopes that he will be there.

Her gold-tipped, scaled wings tucked close to her side, she paces relentlessly, a dirt track already forming below her hooves. She is anxious, more anxious than she has felt with either of her previous children, though she knows she can heal any damage to her own body that the birth could cause, and if it comes to it, she can save the child as well. Either way, something about this child makes her nervous. It is already quite active, moving almost constantly in her womb, and the anxiety it induces forces Cress to pace.

    So she paces.

Not too long ago she had had her first taste of the meadow. And even though she still felt more comfortable in foresty areas such as the forest, the meadow had lured her out again. Jinju had discovered she could run as far and hard as she wanted here, without the obstructions like trees and bushes. She could see for miles and miles too, well, when standing on a hill that was.

The first taste had made her want to explore more of it. The first time she hadn’t had much of the chance either. A couple of mares had held her attention and she had been naturally drawn to them. Something had told her Lexa was okay, familiar and that she would have to go to her.

It’s the almost the same feeling that draws her near the golden mare. Jinju blinks her ruby eyes at the mare, thinking that she should be surprised or shocked by the fact that she doesn’t have ears, but she isn’t. Never before had she seen such a thing, and yet it’s a familiar sight. Though it doesn’t make her less curious.

The restless pacing doesn’t scare her either, it only made her slightly worried and even more curious. Long ago Jinju has given up wondering why she held strong emotions towards those who were strangers and at the same time were not. There is something familiar about, but the inky black filly doesn’t know what. She’s accepted it as something that’s just there.

Probably for the better too, because knowing the truth would scare her extremely. No child should be reminded of its own death. The Taiga’s downfall has taken Jinju with it, taking her life as her fire burned wild and out of control. Mortally wounded an unknown gift had made itself known, burning as hot as Hell’s hottest fire. But it hadn’t only taken, as Jinju was given a fresh start and all memories erased from her mind. For now.

”Are you okay?” she softly asks once she’s near enough. Unlike last time with Lexa, there is a need to approach the mare, to touch her, but the endless pacing makes it a little hard. And Jinju doesn’t need a limb flying in her way.

“My sun is set to rise again.”

    OOC:
When fleeing from the Taiga when the fairies and Carnage made it uninhabitable, Jinju was mortally wounded by Carnage's lava and water wolves. It triggered her -until then unknown- phoenix immortality and now she's a baby all over again.

I play it like she lost all her memories for now, and with age they will come back. For now she just 'recognizes' familiar faces, like, the feeling that she knows them and knows if it's a bad or good thing. She doesn't yet remember anthing that happened between them in the past. Also not what happened to her XD.

It wasn’t often that he saw shadows from the past. There had been a brief period of time among the darkness of his old home (that forsaken dip in the corner of the world) that he’d spent his days shoulder to shoulder with men he might have considered friends (the word sounded bitter on his tongue). It had been decades since he’d seen anyone close to that period of time in his life.

Yet she appeared, a daughter of the ghosts of his memories. He faintly remembered seeing her close to his flame-covered comrade. The trickster and the flamester had spent a pinch of time together, back when the world looked like his childhood (back when causing trouble was much more enjoyable, in fact). It had been interesting, back in the day - spending the days in the shadows of the valley and spending the nights creeping among the fearful. It had been exhilarating.

She paced like a madwoman and he watched from behind a shady tree (his shoulder leaning against the bark, his eyes tracing her path). The grass wore thin beneath her feet as her steps carried her one way and then the other. A young girl approached her and he watched that interaction as well. Perhaps he might have stepped forward brazenly and tossed his name to the sky like a flag (but that had been a younger version of himself - a more egotistical version of himself).

He moved slowly forward (gait lurching like he had walked up the staircase from hell) and paused before the pair of them. He might be considered an unnerving sight to them (lanky build, angular face, scarred body, multicolored eyes) but his gaze is too busy latched onto the golden woman. “Hush, child,” he whispers to the young filly. The trickster’s voice is a smooth tenor and his words to the girl are particularly laced with honey.

“Do you need something to soothe your mind?” His question is directed at the anxious woman while his stomach curdles with possibility.
