    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

[mature]  Sleep With One Eye Open [Come torture her!]
    #11

Son of a Red Eyed Ghost

It all happens so fast.  The distant shouts of the dark mare.  The painful screams of his beautiful Kuma.  Desperate to quiet his mind from all the thoughts pouring from his cranium.

    And then it's silent.

His eyes fixated on the chestnut mare as she again stands.  Like nothing had just happened.  He is baffled at the sight of the new life just born into this dangerous world around them.  How easily instinct takes over the mare as she cleans her child.  But how?  When? Who? He had so many questions.

Allowing her the space to do what she needed, he simply watched.  Ears flickering back and forth with each distant sound.  A gasp leaves Kuma and he wants so badly to lunge forward at whatever had caused the reaction.  She speaks a name, Embark.  He is slow to reach out to her.  Unsure of himself and his place here.  One step forward is taken as his muzzle extends to her side. He sees only the child's bright hue and spotted rump at Kuma's side.  Knowing they must leave now if they have any hope of slipping through the cracks.  "Quickly, before they find us again," he motions into the darkness that the other mare had slipped into.

He steps forwards, nudging Kuma to lead the way.  They would travel at the pace she set to Loess border.  Just as his muzzle retracts from her hide the filly glances up at him with firey red eyes.  Ebony ears press against his skull as a snort emits from his nares.  His heart sinks within his broad chest.  All his worst fears brought to light in mere seconds.  So many more questions filled his mind, but this was neither the time nor place.  They had to move on...
