    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Exclamation
I am not afraid... I was born to do this.
This has been long overdue. Nayl has been waiting, watching, listening, but no one ever stepped forward. No one exceeded expectations or outshined the others. If she was not here, then no one was. When she more actively patrolled the kingdom, their familiar faces suddenly materialized from the shadows.

    It’s now or never.

Her stomach churns uncomfortably, but she glances back to the cave mouth for muted reassurance. This is what’s best, what is required of her. Nayl never planned to be queen this long, but it happened; now, she is tired and wants to nestle against Lior beneath the starry sky and simply retire to a life of quiet and relaxation.

Ha, never did she think such an idea would poison her power-hungry mind.

When she stands near the cliffside, the ocean at her right side and the caves to her far left, she calls for them all. This is her last time, at least for a long while. In front of them, she is still fierce, still proud. There is nothing that radiates weakness as her autumn eyes drift across their faces. ”Hello, all,” she begins as they file in, searching her for answers with questioning and curious eyes. Her voice carries even above the ocean’s dull roar, seemingly content with the news she initially offers them. ”Offspring and I have partially destroyed Sylva. Gryffen held one of our own captive. I could not let them get away with that so easily. Tantalize has since been released.” The memory replays in her mind as she blinks, tasting the dirt that settled on her lips when she fashioned a rocky titan from the depths of the earth. The power seeped from her, weakened her, but she never betrayed herself until she was safely in Nerine. She placidly found the caves and nursed herself before mustering her new strength to call them all here.

”And after helping destroy part of Sylva, I am stepping down.” There is a fairly new burn that licks up her cheek near her right eye – a mark left by Offpspring – but it bothers her fleetingly as she resumes. ”Isobell will be your new Queen.” She doesn’t elaborate as to why. She has wanted her own legacy to take rule, but also because no one stepped forward to deserve the crown. Nayl cannot wait longer for new blood to prove its worth to her. No, she wants to be with Lior now – she cannot wait any longer.

The iron queen patiently waits for her daughter to take a place next to her, noting the changes in Isobell that she had not before seen. She doesn’t ask, not yet. Her concern is masked behind a smile as their eyes level on each other. ”City has already offered to help in rebuilding an army. She has passion and spunk if you see her fit to take a higher position.” Heartfire has been quiet for a while as have most of them, and so Nayl purses her lips shut to allow Isobell to seize her first moments of being a Queen.

    Isobell
i'll wait for inside the bottom of the deep blue sea
She knew one day this could all happen. The way her mother had taught her, groomed her, trained her. All of it was to encompass this very moment where she is all nerve and holding her breath. Nayl's call meets her as she is emerging from the sea in a  body that is not quite her own yet.

The young scaled mare does not hurry but she does move fleetingly over the broken shells and dark sands to meet the urgency of Nayl's voice. Isobell, with her dripping hair and sea kelp tangled locks, looks more beautiful than ever. Her scaled glint like rainbow moon stone and shiny fire forged glass of obsidian as she takes her mother's side. her silver eyes are wide as she attempts to slow her breathing and calm the caged bird that is her heart.

Isobell listens to her mother's words and watches how her gold eyes rove her new body. Isobell will have to explain later, she is certain, but for now the iron queen's voice is steely and cool and strong. Nayl speaks of Offspring and the battle. She talks to her people like a true queen that Isobell can only hope to emulate one day. Silver eyes looks to City at the volunteer to raise an army (Isobell will make sure to greet the woman later).

When Nayl finishes, Isobell takes a breath and steps forward. "Nerinians, new and old, I have grown up alongside you. I have known many of you and some are new. I hope to fulfill my mother's steps and I hope to keep Nerine strong and true like she fought so long to do by carving this place in Beqanna out for us by the use of her own blood and brawn. I hope you will accept me as the new Queen of Nerine." That was enough for now.

Later, Isobell must meet with City to begin the training of new recruits as well as old warriors. It was necessary to be able to defend their home. Isobell knows she must also gather a diplomacy and ensure their alliances are strong or if there is deterioration but that would all come in time...

For now she must accept the crown.

They are together when the call reaches them, and the pair falls still at the sound. Both are breathing heavily despite the ending of their flurry of movement, and in instant the burly figure of a stallion that Starlin had been fighting becomes once more petite Djinni. The older mare looks to the younger, and with a nod of assent, Djinni presses her dark muzzle to Starlin’s shoulder and the two appear in a flurry of golden sand directly to Nayl’s left.

Both grullos are streaked with sweat, but Djinni wishes hers gone in an instant, leaving the taller Starlin with the only visible evidence of their recent exertion. The young filly is not embarrassed of her outward appearance though, it would seem, she stands tall and attentive as the piebald queen begins to speak.

The news of destruction in Sylva is greeting with smiles on both faces, though Djinni’s expression is proud and Starlin’s admiring. Nayl speaks of a new queen, but Starlin is quickly distracted by the news of an true effort to build the army. The idea is thrilling, a tangible way to prove her worth to Nerine, and the grullo Starlin looks through the crowd to find the City that Nayl had spoken of. She will find her later, Starlin decides, and Starlin will offer her services – untested as they may be.

Djinni is uninterested in things as trivial as battle (despite acting as an opponent for her daughter). Her attention is on Isobell even before Nayl introduces her as the new queen. Djinni knows, as soon as the wind reaches her, what has happened. The mage knows what her son is. She knows he is like his father, knows that that is his mark on Isobell’s enchantingly lovely shoulder. Ivar is not here though, Djinni knows; he has most likely left Isobell the same way that his father had left Djinni, unable to avoid the siren’s call of the sea.

The two mares each incline their heads in acknowledgement of Isobell’s new position, and thoughts and plans tick silently behind the mismatched sets of eyes: one sea glass green and the other pair a deep grey-blue.

ooc: they're both still here, obvs.

City watches from the hills as she normally does when everyone gathers. It is a pitiful group indeed. Only her moth-daughter, green wings trembling in the sea -salted breeze, stands by her. Her youngest is among  the missing and it makes her all the more bitter to watch what she sees unfolding. She had stood by Nayl's side not too long ago as the then Queen spoke of rebuilding.

She passes the throne to child, that is her solution. Must be a mighty wise child, yes?
She's probably seen a lot. Hard eye roll.

The red-freckled mare leaves it though, she says nothing and bothers not to descend down the hillside to join her comrades, to acknowledge her new Queen. She will recluse until she can swallow the change as she's done before. She turns to leave, Oleandar stands there still; watching.

    she's just lurking, oleandar too.
city will find iso soon <3

Ardashir heard the call for a meeting and he groaned as he had to gather himself to his feet. The cooling water dripping from his coat and form his wounds. The adolescent stallion did not go into the open water anymore not after what had happened with that green and white monster or a horse that had made the water attack Ard. He took to laying in the shallow pools that nested in the rocks.

He was not going into open water again anytime soon. He made his way to the meeting at the last part of the queen's speech. A new queen would rule them and maybe drag them out of the current stagnation that they were in. The stallion stood in the back head low just listening and trying to keep a low profile amongst them all.

Ooc- Ard is willing to join the army he is in recovery mode.

    Lewana

She had only been here for a short while now, and things have already begun to change. New rulers step down, and new queens rise. An endless revolving game.

The obsidian feline enters the group late, she missed all formalities, in fact she came in right when the little princess was giving her little speech. The speckled girl rolls her eyes for a moment or two before the realization hits her in the princess's ending words,"New Queen of Nerine". It kind of has a nice ring to it, she thinks, a roguish grin forming on her lips, as the leopon settles down her hind quarters.

A curious glow remains in those contracted sea green eyes of hers, as she stares dangerously at Nayl. "Good luck." She grins, verdant gaze meeting the young queen. And she turns, and slinks off releasing an amused chuckle in her wake.

    Baby, this is not wonderland.

    Kahvi
    Differences make good sparks.
She lingers not far behind the black and white mare who she considered her mother. When Nayl found her, just inside Nerine’s territory, her coat had still been wet and slick from birth. As a newborn she had instinctively tried to bond with her biological dam, but the effort had been wholly one-sided. Soon after she had only naturally tried it again, and that time she had gotten response. And that was how she had ended up at the iron queen’s side.

Thus far she hadn’t met many of Nerine’s habitants, only Starlin and Ardashir, besides the queen. Kahvi had especially taken a liking in Starlin, who she had proclaimed her big example and figure to live up to. Well of course she wanted to be like her mom too, but to admit that out loud would fluster her. Though, her mom was cool, right?

Like the way Nayl had stepped up to this evil ruler, and had destroyed a part of his land. All Kahvi can do is be amazed and wonder if she would ever be able to do such thing too. Not that she wanted to destroy, but to the navy girl it sounded pretty badass. No wonder she was nicknamed the iron queen.

But she no longer would be. She blinks her silver eyes up her mother, her dished head tilting a little to the side as she does so. What happens next all goes quick. Kahvi hadn’t had the pleasure to meet this Isobell, nor had Nayl ever told her about her. A sister, as she learns when the young queen proudly steps up and takes her place.

Kahvi lingers a little behind and curiously studies the faces of those who came when summoned. Soon Starlin is there, together with an unknown mare, they seemed pretty comfortable together, was it her mother? Kahvi wants to approach her friend – proclaimed friend – and say hi, and she would’ve if Starlin had been alone, but the presence of an unknown adult throws her off a little. But hey, which child wasn’t at least somewhat shy? Kavhi definitely was.

All she can do is watch from the sideline.
