    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

She too heard the footsteps. A part of her worried, worried for Karaugh and her baby’s wellbeing, and also afraid that her attempt to break the couple free would fail. Another part is looking forward to hís arrival, Amorette is more than ready to lash out to him. Plus she needed him to lower the firewall in order for Karaugh and Kryptic to get out.

Little had she known that someone who had seemed kind and looked like victim, could have such a vicious nature. Amorette had looks up confused the moment Karaugh blocks the only way out, and the sight of the fangs had her eyes almost bulging. ”Wh-what are you doing?” she says, much less demanding than she had wanted to sound. The gasps that gets pulled from her lips doesn’t help either, and her question had been non-verbally answered. All Amore can do is stumble backwards as her ears are pressed back against her skull.

Her head drops a little to the ground and every muscle in her body tenses. Not because she’s ready to counter, but in shock. She snorts softly, and nervous puffs of are breathed out. What the hell was going on here? All she can do is listen and observe, pressed back against the cave near the child’s body. Someone else might use that to his or her advantage, threaten her through her child, but Amore not. He’s innocent in this all. ”Levi..” she breathes out softly, not even know for what she’s pleading.

Him threatening mother ánd son is definitely not it. ”Not the child” she says through clenched teeth, more sure of herself than she had been since Karaugh had turned around one-hundred-and-eighty degrees. As to put strength to her words she moves to stand over him, like his mother had done when she’d first approached the fire. Amore’s eyes are focussed on the buckskin woman, shock, confusion and hurt still displayed on her features. Her body is shaking too, and she would’ve been nervously moving around if she’d been able to.

The firewall that held her captive brightened slightly as the stallion stood seething from the other side.  In turn warming the thin membrane of wing stretched at her sides.  His words are flat and threatening but he under estimated his prisoner.  A master of charades.  It causes her blackened lips to curl even more.  She never looks back to him.  Her focus remained on the kind mare with a perplexed look on her features.  Stuttering in confusion as the tables turned ever so slightly.  She takes the opportunity to announce her bargain, "I am sorry Amorette but I want out of here and you are my leverage."

He comments on his lack of caring whether she and her child parish in an inferno of flames at his doing.  His threat falls on deaf ears but what catches her attention is the dark mare interjecting.  Stepping ever so slightly to cover the child.  She feared not, for as long as Amore's life hung in balance they would live.  "Are you so heartless that you would burn an innocent child to death Levi?" She snickers slightly.  The mask the stallion wore in public was fading quickly.  "All I want is my freedom.  Is that too much to ask for?" Looking into Amore's eyes she looks for understanding.  This was a dog eat dog world and sometimes to survive you have the threatened the safety of others.  She has had to survive on her wit her entire life.

For the entirety of the ordeal he had remained still.  Hidden in the shadows of a cragged rock extended from the walls of the cavern.  Having been born here this was all he knew.  Not the light of day, nor the still of night.  Just the whistle of the wind through the narrow cracks in rocky walls.  So when activity stirred around him he had laid nervously on the cool damp flooring.  Ears flat to his skull in attempt to hide himself.  His attempt is feeble and when his mother moves from over top of him he peers at her with mismatched eyes.

Watching curiously as the other lights a spark against her knees and then his mothers face.  It was different than the lights rolling just a short ways from where he laid.  Nothing more seemed to happen so his eyes wandered back to a drip of water landing near by.  He focused his attention on the steady pitter patter until his ears swiveled to hear hostile tones.  His tiny mismarked head shot straight up as quick movements surrounded him.  Frightened, he jumped up.  The awkward shift of weight at his side nearly toppling him.  Catching himself on a body hovering over him.

    Burn. Death.

The dark chocolate of his one eye examined the limbs embracing him.  If he hadn't have looked out he would have guessed they were his mothers but she is standing firm by the flickering lights.  His eyes trail from knee to shoulder to neck to face.  Lifting his nose high to see a stranger over top of him.  Panic strikes him as he flails his wings to scurry back into his corner.  A shrill whinny escaping him, "Don't hurt me!" Dropping to his knees his face hides in the rocks.  His much to large wings draping across his small body.  Dark tail twitching on his rump that was still in the air.

"Yes, it is too much to ask. In case you have forgotten, you are a prisoner of Tepra, in the custody of the Queen. I have been given an order to hold you and that's what I will do."

"You are careless with your child's life, with your own. His wellbeing is not my responsibility, and I will not shoulder it,"  the heavy stallion snarls in disdain for such a lowly, primitive creature. Amorette's blind faith in her has his stomach roiling, and he can only hope she will take her chance at freedom when he gives it to her.

The vampiric mare seems to think they have arrived at a stalemate.
    The fire mage feels differently.

Karaugh's gaze shifts to Amorette, and his opportunity lies before him. With the speed of a whip, a tendril of flame reaches through the firewall to surround Karaugh. The tendrils unravel to create a latticework of superheated bars solid enough to lift objects - too solid to pass through, even for the bravest or most careless of souls. Amorette had stepped back earlier, creating enough space for him to send in his flames without doing damage to his kind friend or the foal - he will not waste this chance.

"If your freedom is so valuable you should have thought of all this before you defied Ellyse."

With Karaugh trapped, his ears swivel back to the other mare and foal, but his gaze never leaves his prisoner.

    "Take the foal and go."
There is no hint of a request in his voice, it is a command. He has no time to worry about where this put him and Amorette, he is only relieved that she will be able to leave without incurring damage.

The magic he uses to create this secure prison draws more energy and skill than the simple firewall had, and the structure of intertwined, solidified flame would dissipate if he were to leave.

Anything Amorette wished to discuss with him would have to wait, but with a sinking feeling which he does not show he wonders if there is anything left for them to salvage.

It is still a mystery to her how Karaugh’s attitude had changed around one-hundred-and-eighty-degrees. From victim to stone cold witch. ”Shut up” she murmurs, and the smoky black mare isn’t even sure if she’d spoken loud enough for anybody to hear. Amorette simply does not know how to deal with the revelation and right now it was easier to ignore it.

Just as she tried to ignore the fact that the world wasn’t as black and white as it had been in her mind. And she also struggled with the idea of Karaugh deceiving her on purpose, with ill intentions. Amore grits her teeth together, staring at the bat winged mare with hurt and anger swirling in her eyes. But she knows very well that she’s trapped, and that Levi is coming to her rescue.

Kryptic pulls her out of her thoughts, making her drop her head towards his small frame. ”Nobody is going to hurt you” she tells him with a low and warm voice. She gently nibbles at his crest, hoping to calm him. She would make sure that Levi, nor his mother, would hurt him. And Amore makes sure to convey that to Levi through her heated gaze when he speaks about the colt.

The sudden appearance of the firewall – no, not a wall, a cage – to trap Karaugh makes her flinch. In an attempt to stay strong for Kryptic she stands her ground, but not without eyeing the fire disapproving. Being locked away in a cave was one thing, but confined in a small space a whole other. And where Karaugh might – maybe, Amore wasn’t sure of that yet – deserve to be held captive, this was too much.

There was time a place for everything, but not now. ”Come, we have to go.” Amorette realises that when she gently ushers Kryptic onto his feet. Levi had read her right, there was no way that she would leave the child behind. It was not her intention to steal him away from his mother, and Karaugh was free to take him home with her whenever that happened, but for now he would be better off not in the caves.

Though she’s grateful for Levi coming to her rescue – and she is very aware that it was exactly that – it is impossible to forget some of the things Karaugh had said. It had been so easy to believe the buckskin mare, but the events even made Amore doubt whether or not it had been the truth. With the colt at her side she flees the past Karaugh and Levi without looking at either of them. For now it was easy to pretend and play concerned over Kryptic, but she knows she would have to face Levi sooner or later. There is so much she wants to say, and yet at the same time, she doesn’t even know how to start. Something to worry about later.

”What is your name, little one?” she gently asks the colt once they are outside. Tephra is never cold, so she doesn’t worry about that, but if the confined cave was all he knew, she can only imagine this world to be very terrifying. ”Everything will be okay” she tells him lovingly, hoping that it would be. Her muzzle gently ruffle his mane, trying her best to make him as comfortable as possible. He does something to her, warms her heart in a way she had not yet discovered. And all Amorette desires is to keep him safe and well.

    @[Neo]
Is the little powerplay of Kryptic okay? If not, let me know and I'll edit!
If it's okay, would you like a seperate thread for just Kryptic and Amore, as follow up on them leaving the cave and the thread?

    @[Lavender]
For the new thread we can perhaps say that Kryptic is asleep somewhere closeby? That Amore is watching over him while talking with Levi after this thread? If that's okay with Neo?

His answer to her is met with a devilish cackle.  Defiance. Trespassing. Careless.  Apparently he didn't know much about her.  With a shift of eyes he throws his flames around her before she can launch at the other mare throat.  A hiss escapes her throat.  Maw open to show her pearly fangs begging to rip Amorettes throat out.  Venom-laced words spew from her darkened lips,   "I didn't hear you complaining while you were fucking me the other night, Levi.  My carelessness worked in your favor, didn't it?"

He demands the dark mare and the child, her child, to leave.  They rush quickly out the freed passageway.  Soon leaving her to stand behind the firey gates alone, once again.

    Kryptic-
He jumps forward as a soft mouth nips gently along his crest.  His mother having never touch him that softly.  There was a possessive roughness his mother held with him.  The kind words that accompanied the gesture were soothing but his fears remained.

Just then fire ignites and surrounds his mother.  Confused and scared he wobbles away from the heat radiating from it.  Coming to rest near the black mares chest.  Quickly she nudges him forwards. Come we have to go. Into the darkness of the underground tunnels.  His unmastered steps and balancing of his brown wings almost toppling him over as they rush towards another bright light.

He stops abruptly, hooves just an inch from touching the line of light and dark on the ground.  The mare had crossed so easily, but he had seen her cross the flames before.  He wasn't like her.  He could not burn and heal.  He would die. He was certain of it.  So he remained in the shadows.  Conflicted.

What is your name little one? Everything will be ok. She tries to sound convincing but he doesn't budge.  Eyes frantically scanning the world in front of him.  All the colors and sounds.  Smells.  He takes it all in and when he looks back to her face, she is still awaiting his answer.  With a large gulp of uncertainty he speaks quietly, "Kryptic."

Seeing that the dark mare was not in pain from the light he bravely places his one hoof just within reach of the daylight.  Both eyes winced shut.  When he feels no different one eye opens.  Surely his foot is gone, he thinks.  But he sees that is is not so he opens both eyes again.  Lowering his nose to examine his hoof more closely.  Rising it slightly to make sure it was still intact and useable.  Deciding that maybe another step forward would be ok...

Ok. This thread is done too.  I assume @[Levi] leaves shortly following Karaughs retrapment to find Amore and Kryptic outside.  If @[Amorette] wants to thread with Kryptic that is fine but I assume everyone will be showing up about now for drama thread, so maybe after that..timeline wise.??
