    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Silence.

It comes with a sense if loneliness and dread. When the world around you is too quiet it can bring forth so many painful memories, but worse of all a sense of building desperation even within the demons of the world.

He doesn't like it. Then again, who would?

Life without his partner-in-crime was strange. It felt empty and unusual and he didn't have the patience he typically would. Wherever she was, he has not yet found her. But soon. Soon she would reappear. He could feel it.

The rage was slowly building, twisting and turning deep within the pits of his empty gut as he tried to keep a grip tightly held on the reality that surrounded him. It was as though he was a balloon, quickly inflating with air. The pressure was growing and just one prick of a needle would cause him to pop.

It's this that drives him. Keeps him from his hole in the ground. From slipping back into a sweet slumber.
    *************
It's morning when he finds himself standing in the center of the island, quietly staring at nothing in particular. In silence he is contemplating, planning, determining. He knows he must find her, but so far he has searched everywhere to no avail. She is out of reach, but soon. Soon.

With a sigh his dark black eyes scan over his surroundings until finally he is moving, slinking lazily through the trees, his body sticking to the shadows. For now the best he can do is keep an eye on the place he had determined was home. The first place he had finally, truly made a friend.

His pledge of loyalty and protection had been an honest one to the bay and emerald queen and over time, no matter what happened he would stick to it. For a demons promise was always a promise sealed with their own blood. It's in silence that he continues on his path until finally he comes across a lone soul and coming a sudden halt he huffs slightly. For a moment he watches them until finally a blunt and sudden greeting slips through his lips, "Hello," it is forced, but he is trying.

You are not who he is looking for.

    You are not her.

    Krone

    you could be the king

Idle hands are the devil's workshop, Krone.

Mother's words are a constant echo in her mind. While she was not the most nurturing of parents, she had taught the bay and emerald mare some important lessons about leadership, about time. Time was a funny thing, wasn't it?

Time had destroyed the old Beqanna, time had built her new. Time had forced Krone to leave, and time had brought her back. Time had taken Circinae away, and time had given Ischia to her.

    Time is funny, afterall.

Krone takes her mother's advice, and day in and day out, she is leading, trying to be a good Keeper, wanting nothing more than to make the island proud. A few months into this endeavor, and she is growing tired. She needs a break.

She allows herself the rest she needs today. She is exploring her island, leading her to its heart. The center of the island was where the largest of Ischia's springs lay, where the parrots are most plentiful. She enjoys to watch the parrots, she considers the colorful birds her friends. She flies with them, observes them, protects them. They are as much a part of the island as the horses who inhabit there.

"Hello." A voice rumbles from the trees. She does not waver, eyes still watching as the red and blue birds fly around and call to each other. She recognizes the voice; its the stallion from the meeting with the intruders. The one she had meant to find.

Well, he had found her instead.

"Hello," She finally says after a moment, looking back to stare at his dark, sleek frame.

    but watch the Queen conquer
